A mate had a 16v astra years ago, very quick car, crap handling

though.

Can't speak for the primera, never been in one.

A good astra will set you back a few quid now, quite sought after.

Vauxhall for me mate, looks good and has a 2.0 16v Redtop engine, which is pretty quick :-)

I used to love (and still do)the 16vAstra GTE!!! My mate had one for 3 weeks and then lost his licenece, Bloody quick car in the day, His was white and the digital dash always did it for me, I would go for the Astra mate, future classic!!

We spun off the road in it at 130mph and went backwards through a hedge, bent all the alloys and smashed the exhaust and bumper off, really fookin lucky!!!:sweatdrop:

It also got robbed 3 times in a week!!

Daz.

The Mk1 Astra GTE is another nice car too, but like rockin horse poo

Wow, my mate has a manta at the Moment!! he loves them and always talking about it, to be honest i dont like it, but he doesnt like my zed`s!! each to there own!! I wouldnt even know what model it is? its blue and looks crap!! it actually looks like an old cavalier? The GTE was the nicest one IMO!

My friend has one hardly ever uses it though, and he must of spent a fortune getting it as near to concourse as he can

but well worth it

Thats the earlier model, mine was a 1984 B-reg, was a hatchback, really

wanted the saloon, but they were very rare.

I'm gonna upset you now and tell you i also had a 16v Calibra too.:whistling:

But it fell to bits!

Will have to ask he has a website to so will post the link when I’ve spoke to him, he spent thousands making it look as it should, but then could'nt leave it as standard with a few subtle mod's

Especially after coming in to allot of money, i could not list half of the stuff he has now done. I’ll see if i can sort a recent pic though and the link

Yeh me too bud!! a blue 16v red top with black leather!! I have just last week sold it to my Manta mate so he can put the red top in his Manta!! I paid £600 for it 5 years ago, 50 miles later the cam belt snapped and fooked the engine £500 later and its was ok, my mum has had it for the last 4 years and done about 500 miles in it, i have just give it my mate for £200

Mine was blue too, a h-reg. The wheel arches fell apart.

Had a good engine though, done 140k and still going strong.

I know the primera is bullet proof, how does the gte fair in the reliability department, I used to own a 1.4 mk2 astra and it was extremely reliable.

i used to own a 1.3 automatic astra Mk.2 before my GSi. old carburettor with an automatic choke that kept coming on too early and stalling the car when cold. especially at roundabouts. my dad installed a manual choke for me which fixed it. other than that it was a reliable little car

i had a SRi 130 in silver, a GSI 3000 24v (one of my fav cars i have ever had), MK1 astra brother in law has had mk2 astra GTE (im not a fan) a manta GTE coupe and now has a droop snoot firenza

Both are great cars. Have driven both. The MK2 GTE 16v is a hooligans car. Raw, noisey and to the point. As stock, its handling is pretty poor, but a good set of Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks sort that right out.

Your biggest problem with the MK2 Astra is rust. Lots of it EVERYWHERE! Unless you pay good money for a really really tidy example, I wouldn't bother getting one. They really do rust everywhere...which is hardly surprising for a car of its age. Rear arches, sills, boot floors, chassis rails, suspension turrets wings, roof, door bottoms.

As from Primera eGTs, they are a good solid car. Smooth, compared to the GTE and far more civilised. Rust isn't a problem so much on these and to find a half decent one will be easier than with a GTE. Avoid the hatchback, they are fugly!

I had a Cavalier GSi as a daily driver about 7 or 8 years ago. I fitted some H&R springs to it and it transformed the car. Apart from the harsh old C / 20XE, it was a fab car to drive!

There's always been something about Cavaliers that I've loved, i may try to find myself a nice tidy SRi 130
