you could but better off with 10w 40. Myself i use mobil 1 00w 40, this is only becauce the car has always ran on it and i have had zero issues.

il change to putting 10w40 castrol magnatec

get mobil 10w/40 over castrol for sure! but the 15w/40 is fine

the manual advise is 10w/40

The 15w-50 Mobil will be fine, just give it time to warm up before giving it beans. The Catrol Magnatec 10w-40 despite perhaps being a more appropriate viscosity is pretty basic stuff.

Castrol Magnatec = Cheap semi synthetic (100% mineral base)

Mobil 1 15w-50 = Good quality synthetic (100% PAO synthetic base)

Cheers

So ideally Mobil 1 10w-50 is the one to use? I've still got running in oil in mine, but she's due for a good transfusion....

Silkolene Pro S or Millers CFS 10w-50 are the best ones to use, but the Mobil 15w-50 is a good choice

Is the car modified?

Thanks for getting back to me.

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and you will find those through the link below.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Gulf Formula G, Fuchs Supersyn and Mobil Synt S are good, cheaper alternatives.

Oilman, how does the Castrol Magnatec 10w/40 compare to the oil Nissan originally specified for the TT engine. I use this oil so am I damaging my engine, I only cruise around in the car with the odd short burst of hard acceleration.

Paul

My engine is a tad noisey for the first 10-15 seconds and it still has a sticky lifter, Im using 10-40 semi syn at the moment but have been told try 15-50 and it might help quieten the engine a little and help the lifter, I was also going to use a good Forte top end treatment aswell, can anyone give me any clues if this is a good idea.

Thanks Craig

It depends if your car is standard or modified.

Standard - because of the age of your car it will exceed original specs

Modified - It may not be up to the job, nor will the original recommended oil as it was not recommended for mods, only for the stock car used on the road

Guy, thanks for the info,

Paul

Could I put this into my zed??

Valvoline Synpower Fully-Synthetic 0-40w

any mods etc , what usage does the car see?

might be worth looking at some old threads by oilman some describe the best oil for said use etc

all stock mine..

Cant really see the need for it then but i'm sure it would be ok, maybe a 10w/40 or 15w/40 would be better though?

any issues with the engine, Ie: noisy lifters etc?

See if you can find the detailed thread oilman posted a while back it gave loads of info regarding what oil is best for what situation

worth a read !!!! :)

I always thought if you go below a 10/40 the oil is too thin and will pass the turbo oil seals, which will cause smoke, obviosley non turbos are different lol.

Mark

A 0w-40 should be okay as the oil is the same as any other -40 when hot -> a 15w-40 and 0w-40 are the same viscosity at 100C. The w stands for Winter and refers to the cold viscosity so the 0w flows quicker than the 15w when cold. One thing to remember though is that the cold and hot viscosities are measured on different scales as they are so different. An oil is always thinner when it's hot than cold, so a 0w-40 is no more likely to get past seals than a 15w-40 when it's hot.

hi oilman , so im still having flifter noise , can you recommend anything to get rid of the noise

Are you getting the noise all the time, or when hot or when cold? And what oil are you currently using?

Cheers
