Hi Guys,

I`m fitting my BC coilovers at the weekend, I have a small idea on what to do,but where do I start? any hints/tips for me along the way, do I need any special tools? or other parts before I start? Do I need to set them to a certain ride height before fitting.

Thanks in advance :flowers:

Daz

p/s just in case it matters they are getting fitted to my TT.

well )) i would not carry out the work without skilled mechanic to be honest mate .. especially when you have little idea what to do !

its not as easy as you might think . by the way nice set up how much ??))

Cheers bud, someone told me it was easy?? less than 1 hour to fit!!

The coilovers were £420 inc post from a member on here, they are brand new, he never got round to fitting them and then sold his zed(i thinks), nice eh?

Daz.

you can fit the fronts without taking the wheels of but the backs you will have to the fronts are 6 nuts under the cover and the backs you will have to remove part of the interior trim

ring me if you need any advice

Cheers Phil! I`ve stripped the boot interior out already and found the nuts, do i need to order new bushes from nissan even if mine are ok, or are they normally ok to leave on?

Thanks bud, i will call you if i need help, ta mate.

they are normally ok but if they look abit suspect order some new ones and there is four gaskets (pink) they usually split when taking them of so are better replacing them as they are an insulator between the shock absorber and inner wing metal do not fit without gasket and you can adjust the ride height when you have fitted them

:S its extremely easy mate, just unbolt old, and put new in, the rear will require you to take out most of the plastics to get to the bolts.

Dont be put off - it is much easier than I expected.

Spring tensioners are the tool you will need to compress the springs to get them off, after that it's just undoing some bolts and getting the the units in and out - about 4 hours each end the first time I did it, now I can do it in 3 hours 58 minutes.

Only ever put OEM shockers and bespoke springs (twice) on so can't give you any advice on settings for the new coilovers - measure the ride height before you start and go for a higher setting to start with.

4 wheel Laser tracking alignment when you are done as an absolute minimum.

Nice one!!! I`ve looked all over for a fitting guide but there is no information on here how to do it, Bantambunny posted a few pics a while ago but not much info. I will have a go at making one myself to help peeps out.

cheers again Phil

If you need help mate, pm me your number, i will help you over the phone :cool3:

no problem and you might need a deep socket 12 or 14 mm for the backs to get the nuts of and back on but it depends on how much thread is stuck up and are you putting adjustable top mounts on ??

Cheers bud, Do i still need spring tensioners for just fitting coilovers as the springs are already attached to the units? Thanks for the pointer

Hey, I`m all tooled up now!!! brand new halford`s socket set a few weeks ago and just got a 12volt snap on 1/2 inch impact driver from e-bay for £49 second hand!!! bargain!

shame i dont know how to use them

Cheers Daz.

You should be able to slacken off all the settings on the coilovers to get them in without compressing the springs with the tensioners, but it wont be easy - getting the bolt through the bottom of the rears in and out needs lots of WD40 and swearing.

Aww if I you were closer to me an me zed was fully on the road I'd be popping over to help you, done loads of these before when I worked for national tires

you'll manage fine Daz, I changed my front ones the other week and it took under an hour and all self-explanatory when you study the bolts holding it on etc. :)

Cheers Bazza, I`ve actually found most stuff on the zed is self explanatory when we start deliving, and all a big learning curve for me.

Thanks mate

Daz.

might need a crowbar near by though, I had to move the bottom arm around to release the strut, but it was just on axle stands on a gravel driveway, not the best situation really.. :tt2:
