Hi just after some advice on what maybe causing this noise.

I ve had cylinder heads refurbed and turbos also rebuilt as car was smokey,

these were done by specialished people. All dismantling and and refitting i have done myself with engine in car (crazy lol).

With everthing carefully put back the engine started first time and with a few

tweaks with the coil pack plugs where going great, oil pressure, temperture

all ok.

I been on a few test drives and has been running great, but now just started

to develop knocking/Tappy noise only when reved up.

Not had chance to seriously delve into it yet but am thinking timing/cam belt/

cam gears. Any ideas.

could be a sticky lifter mine has this now and then. alot of zeds suffer from this, try putting a good top end treatment in like Forte treatment and give her a good run.

Did you also changed the bearings???

Often a bad bearing allows the piston to tap into the head and valves...do not over rev it, it will only get worse...

I think sticky lifters are noisey also on idle...

If i were you i would check oil pressure(aftermarket gauge and sender, no stock), engine compression, then the bearings and the crank..i learned this things the hard way...

if it was the bearings does anyone know how long you get b4 they completly go? mines been doing it for a few months now, started of as a slight tapping then one day started it and it was more of a knocking but sometimes it goes back to a tapping haha, its really annoying me, oil pressures fine, runs fine, powers there, just this dam noise, sorry for the hijack icewhitebear

How long is a piece of string lol. If it knocks I wouldn't rev or drive it anywhere until you know the reason. Bottom end shell replacement is allot cheaper than say a complete engine rebuild. Oil starvation or excessive wear is often the cause.

My last engine boke the cam on the passenger side - still worked on 5 for a day or two then died noisily - no oil and repeated 170 mph runs is a sure combination for a broke engine.

Cheers for the the advice guys, hopefully get chance to work on it at weekend,

i think am going to test the oil pressure as mate has leant me a tester gauge that screws in where the sender unit is, hopefully this will tell me if my gauge is reading correct.

If bearings were worn surely the knocking would happen at start up from cold, mine seems to be fine its only when engine starts to warm up and i rev that i get this knocking.

Sorry for stating the obvious but why were you running to 170mph on a known faulty engine?

Trying to kill it? :alucard:

ive the same problem a tappy knock , but im putting it down to puttting a crap 10w 40 oil in from when it was built , their is only 100 miles on the engine so going to try 15w50 and see if this helps , i fitted new bearings and a ground crank , what could my knock be ?????

I'm guessing an oil change was done? You may find this settles down itself after a while.

The last 3 cars I've changed the oil on instantly brought in a tapping noise, even though I primed the oil filter etc prior to starting the engine...month or so later in each case, the tapping has gone?!

The engine wasn't faulty till I drove it at that speed - I do go to Germany regularly btw.

Ivan

thats a hell of a speed even for the autobahn with no oil in your engine!

Yeah I just had a quick look at the dip stick - it was covered in black stuff so I assumed ............. poor design to have a bendy dipstick.

Engines are replaceable parts on cars, I got through four in one Honda, two in the scooby (in 6 months) and the Z car is only on its second in five years - very reliable and durable in my opinion.
