Any help appreciated folks.

I've made no changes or installed anything new but a couple of days ago I struggled to get some websites to load up, thought nothing of it and assumed there was something wrong with my broadband supply and it would be sorted but unfortunately not.

Its a bit strange because its only some sites some of the time. When I've got the problem I might try to go on ebay, gumtree, facebook or log in to hotmail and it will not actually time out but it will never actually fully load the page (after login info entered for hotmail, nearly all others its any page) at the same time I can get on here no probs, can go to google fine and lots of others.

I've cleared out all temp files and cookies and carried out a speed check and everything comes back as being fine even when doing speed test while the problem is active in another browser window. I've tested with firefox and IE and get the same results for the same sites.

No mate. Frustrating that its only some sites (that I use regularly) and not others...and when searching online for a solution I can't get into many of the results pages that may have the answer!

Its with all browsers though, not just firefox.

I unplugged the router for a while there, downloaded the latest windows update and went through re-boot and all seems Ok just now...don't know if that's sorted it or if its just going through one of its working stages and then kick in again in 30 mins

i know peeps having probs running old internet explorer version 7 maybe it was to do with this & the update sorted it but u shouldnt have problems with firefox unless thats old too but i think it self updates iirc??

for what it's worth my pc kept doing a memory dump... i ended up trying alsorts and in the end took a look inside to see what memory stick/s it had. i had to give the inside a good clean out as it was full of dust! i had anoher memory stick to upgrade with but it was not the same so ended up putting it back together .....hey presto cured the problem. lol:hammer: I wish all was as simple to fix.:whistling:

Cheers for the replies guys, all still seems to be working this morning so fingers crossed that its sorted.

If not, I may try opening it up...I do have a dog and the laptop is pretty dusty and hairy at times!

I'm using DSL mate...no cable in my area, been problem free with same supplier and same laptop for about 8 months til last week

Go into your router, normally its 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 and look for the MTU size, change it to like 1450, and save the settings, if its still doing it, change it to 1400 then save the settings. All should work fine then.

just to confirm the speed of your internet, go to somewhere like http://www.speedtest.net and do a test.

i only say because ive recently upgraded to a 20mb line with orange and their service has been shite - ive been on the phone to them over half a dozen times. :xxx:

Cheers Murt, its still working OK tonight but if it happens again I'll give that a go.

EvoluZion3 - that was one of the weird things, I ran speed tests from a few different sites and they were all saying I was getting roughly what I should be (meant to be 8, getting about 6.5) - at the same time the test was running I would try opening one of the sites I had trouble with in another tab and it wouldn't load fully...but I could log on here and many other sites and it was still lightening quick!
