Had to drive 30 miles to my "local" Nissan parts department to enquire and order a particular coolant hose for a R35 GT-R. I printed the relevant page and information off the Courtesy Parts site and presented it to the bloke behind the counter. Firstly, he asked what car it was for (despite the page having GTR/R35 plastered all over it). Then he proceded to look gormless and proclaim that without a precise model and chassis number he won't be able to find anything in the Nissan FAST system ... What a bloody load of dogs dangly bits! I know the FAST system quite well and there is no requirement to put in a chassis number and the model number of the R35 GT-R is quite obvious. Anyway - he refused to try and look it up so I had wasted an hour and a half of my time ... Not going back there again.

:rant off:

Phoned Middlehurst and within 2 minutes they had the correct part number and ordered the part for me ...

Sorry for the rant but once again Nissan has proven itself to be completely useless.

have a good weekend all!

Ahh I've been faced with this before, went to my local nissan dealer and asked for some bits for my old one when it was being converted. They were gear gaitor leather and rubbers i think, i mean nothing major. After being asked twice if i was sure my car was a nissan he finally found the 300zx (no idea as to what the car was),

I then said it was an import and he said "oh it'll be different then". I mean hang on a minute, 30 seconds ago you didnt know what the dam car was, so how do you know its any different... LOL What a tool.

Had this problem so many times with Nissan dealers. They just wont do anything without chassis number or Part number. Useless.

Not as bad as the time they asked me if the Z was petrol or Diesel, after I had given them them all the details

Its a requirement if you work in parts to get into that 'stores mentallity'.

Phrases like 'no', or ' no you cant' 'you will need the correct part number + then its no.', followed by ' we havent got one anyway'

that one always makes me laugh!!!:lol:

Its all about ordering the correct parts, the view of the dealer is that if they order a part thet ends up wrong they will be lumbered with it and more than likely wont be able to sell it or return it.

I have just finished an engine job on a coach where the main dealer (Volvo) were given a chassis number, but it was (allegedly)1 digit out (41522 instead of 41552), they got an engine type/number from the chassis number on their computer, the lower/earlier chassis number had a later engine with different con rod/pistons, the later piston/liner and con rod were supplied to the customer fitted to the engine, to which I was called in to check why it was smokey, to which I found no 1 and 6 cylinders had approx 5mm difference in height through the injector hole in the head. Wrong piston/liner/conrod fitted, the dealer have washed their hands, not their fault. But I would say they should have asked for an engine number which is stamped onto the block, but they didnt, also why are they using data on the computer thats 15 years old (thats the age of the coach) as potentially the coach could have had 3 engines in the 15 years of its age, for me 100% they should give out no parts without the correct info.

You can slate the dealers all u like, for me in most cases correct parts are ordered if the correct info is given by the customer, but then there are good people out there working for some dealers, not many, who will check/source parts correctly and are generally helpful. Then again there are the unhelpful ones, but thats another story.

Just my 2p's worth.

Cheers John

I can forgive them not knowing about a zed, let's face it the majority of them were still crapping in their nappy's when it came out. But not knowing about the GT-R is just plain ridiculous.

Never had a problem with my local one, they do get abit arsey if you don't give them a chasis number but I always give part numbers and never had any issues.

When i was looking for a part at my Nissan dealer, he asked if my 300 was uk or jap....... when i said it was jap, the little pr**k said "uk nissan dealers do not supply jap spec cars"!!!!!!! Fu**ing c**k. It makes my blood boil!!!

LOL - I had forgotten about posting this rant ... but now that I remember it's making my blood boil yet again.

No, it wasn't Middlehurst - I do good business with them and they have already sent me the correct part now.

I can understand that the dealer/service dept. doesn't want to be stuck with an incorrectly ordered part BUT in this case I actually did the hard work for them and printed off the relevant page from the US FAST system. As some part numbers are different over the pond all I needed was for the local guy to confirm the UK part number based on the information presented to him. It is not inconceivable to imagine him using his other brain cell and look it up in his FAST system and compare the two pictures to confirm that the parts are in fact identical.

Anyway - I know it's not the dealer/parts dept. fault as they need to operate according to their rules and procedures but it does grate on me when a little bit of commen sense fails would have sorted this out in no time.

Ho hum ... ;)

When i go down to honda they just bang in the vehicle reg and they find the correct parts that way, never had an probs with ordering parts for the prelude. Some places are a joke for being more than unhelpful

The Nissan dealership in Ipswich has always been 100% helpful with me, correct parts everytime and I have had them order in some very obscure parts in the past that I did not even know what the correct name for but they managed to sort it by me saying I want the plastic bit that goes under here.

i had a similar prob with my local nissan parts department. i forget what the part was but i told them it was for a uk tt manual and he refused to believe it was a uk car and said all 300zx's were imports.
