My escort was recovered today and is being held at a compound by the recovery people. I only have Third Party Only insurance but I have green flag rescue with my insurance. They won't release the car until it's paid for (even though I didn't ask that particular company to recover it the police must have) who has to pay for the car to be released?

My insurance/recovery or I was also told the police are liable through their recovery or do I have to pay for it myself.

Any help apreciated

You will have to pay yourself.

oh balls

Indeed!

You might be able to claim it back from your insurance but you really need to go and get the car NOW as they will be charging you on a daily basis.

yeah I know it's something like £22 a day storage plus the £150 recovery. The car is worth about £60 scrap that means.....someone stole my car full of fuel I now have to pay about £120 to get it scrapped tommorrow and have had to buy another car today  I'll have to phone work and go in late tommorrow to get it sorted.

at the end of the day mate you never asked them...you never entered a contract with them to remove it and they cant have what you aint got..the only thing they have is your car for security so let them keep it:sneaky2:

Tell them to talk to your insurance company. Since the car was nicked and you have third party (I'm assuming that includes fire and theft) you should be covered.

But unless you tell them to scrap it they will keep storing it and charging you.

They were asked/told by the police to move it. But its still your car at the moment and therefore your responsibility.

i feel your pain/anger.

My daughter ended up in the same situation but it was self induced unfortunately. she had a smallish accident on the M1 at night and landed in a dangerous situation with an undriveable car. The police came and arranged for it to me taken away by a local recovery yard.

I had to go with her in a couple of days to look at it. total write off(on 3rd party ins) so I had to pay for recovery, storage etc less the scrap value. PITA but at the time I was just relieved she wasnt injured and to be fair the police were really good and took care of it all then rang me to ask me to come and fetch her home.

:angry: well this stuff should be paid for out of the criminal injurys fund..yes the very same fund that keeps rising by millions each year from fine and parking penaltys..seems ironic that our friend here has been a victim of crime by no fault of his own and its going to cost him money with no re-course for any payback:cursing:

Not being funny here Pete, but as you said "it was self induced" Glad you're daughter is OK. However in the insurance point of view she is at fault and since the policy was third party, she would not have been covered. Paul's car was stolen and recovered by the police, therefore he is (or should be) covered by his insurance.

My replies in this thread were based on the fact that 8ACE said it was "third party" rather then saying "third party + fire+ theft"

So I assumed the opposite to you Dave ie he had no theft cover.

Only 8ACE will know for sure:cool3:

this is starting to look like its petes fault the way he's defending himself:rofl::rofl::rofl:

As you say Pete, I have assumed Third plus F+T, if it is just third then your right he won't be covered. Anyway between the pair of us 8ace should be sorted :confused1: LOL.

hi from what you said in your first post your third party only so youll have to pay the storage as your only coverd if you hit some-one/somethig else wich then they will pay them out no you

It wasnt me that nicked it!!:scared:

Honest guv.

Third party only is the cover but I also pay my insurance for direct line rescue which I told the police when I reported it. I could have probably used my rescue cover to fetch the car as the steering column casing and lock was bust off it wasn't burnt out or anything and is apparently drivable. Instead the police have a contract with # & # motors to recover vehicles.

I am so fecked off.

The tw@ts that stole it had a free ride home and were probably pissed too as there were a good few empty beer cans around near when my car was taken. They will never be caught as the police have had no dealings with forensics on the car or anything.

Myself on the other hand who pays tax, insurance and service costs to keep it roadworthy will be out of pocket by about £700 by the end of tommorrow.

This countries laws are so wrong. If it were in Texas i could have shot the f#ckers had I seen them and probably not even been grilled too badly by the police.

Sorry to hear about this mate. I used to work for a recovery company and they had the contract with the local police for recovery of accident damaged, stolen recovered cars and soco cases - the contract states that the recovery company has to be on scene within 20 mins and for that reason the police will not entertain letting you arrange your own recovery as they would be tied up at the scene longer.

I left a couple of years ago so my prices may have changed since then but the costs were standard across the UK and the companies with the police contract charged £120 recovery cost plus £12 per day storage...and you weren't allowed to pick your car up at weekends but were charged for storage for those days.

In most cases people just sign the car over to the recovery company and that settles the bill, they sell them on to local dismantlers.

Paid to get the car out today( they only charged for recovery luckily) and had to scrap it as they'd smashed pass wing/light etc and drivers wheel had been hit too. Sad day as the cars been very good to me mechanically. Got a new daily drive but it stinks of farm dogs. :hurl: used a litre of febreez in it last night and is a little less whiffy today

A huge 1.4 petrol engine and it's french
