i couldnt believe it when my tennant told me that he has recieved a £25 cold weather payment, and he has another coming next week

apperently if you are unemployed and its below a certain temp for a certain period of time then the goverment gives you an extra £25 a week for heating

its been freezing and ive been wary about putting the heating on as it gets a bit costly, still had it on but its always at the back of my mind how much im spending, but these lazy ass fookers wont even get out if bed till its after lunch time and they get extra money to keep them warm

can someone tell me again why i bust my ass day in and day out when it seems they get more than me for doing naff all

All i get is to make lot of phone call's. i have worked for 40 years, As for people being work-shy not all of us are. who pay's there rent then the state so are you making money from work -shy people you rent to. your people my be work-shy but dont put us all in the same boat. sorry if this up set's some people

Stella is pointing the finger at people who choose not to work mate, not the ones trying and have lost their jobs due to the recession.

yes i see that but what i said if your happy to take the rent from them which they get from the state. why complain about other money they get. you can't have it both way's i dont know how people live on the dole money

most of my tennants are cash tennants (not housing benefit) the rooms are £50 a week, no council tax, free hot water and free communal heating, we have a few housing benefit tennants that have no intention of working and never will if the goverment keep handing out dosh willy nilly

I've spent the last god knows how many years as a mortgage broker, working 6 days a week at my desk at 8am and seeing clients up until 10pm. 2 months ago my business failed, and forced me to take stock of life.

I have a missus and 2 kids who I have rarely seen.

I have paid an average of £30K PA tax over the last few years, and had nothing in return when I needed it.

I found banks and mortgage providers ruthless when the tables turned

I have decided to take a year out and use the time to retrain to do something I want to do.

I am claiming every benefit i can get my hands on to allow me to do this.

What does that make me.

And yes I have had 2 cold weather payments

I was on the dole for 10 months after graduating.. it was sh*t. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to work desperately but due to my location maybe 2 new jobs came up a week. There were jobs requiring relevant degrees paying minimum wage etc. because they knew they'd probably get the best they could for little pay in desparate times :(

The worst bit was I was working for more money before my degree than I've been able to make after. After 10 months I got a job shovelling grain and heavy machine maintenance for 100 hours a week on night shift for min. wage (no overtime). But after 2 months I just couldn't cope any more as it was seriously draining hard work.

Now I've got a job in an IT centre doing close to network engineer-stuff (no jokes, not bumping myself up here, theres 4 of us serving the european and middle eastern divisions hill and knowlton who are a global PR company in everything from exchange/AD issues through to VPN problems, graphic design etc.) and theres some seriously intense and up-to-date IT research needed each week and I was already very well versed in IT from a young age. I'm on 13k PA which is sh*te.

BUT I might point out that 13k is a lot more than jobseekers! Never mind the fact it doesn't do much for ones self esteem. I don't know how I survived on it for 10 months.

My question is this: If they are earning 45 pounds a week, how much are you charging rent, and how do they pay bills and food ontop?? I can't feesibly see how it would work unless they are scamming it

the rent is £50 a week, no council tax, free hot water, free heating and the pound slot meters we lose on cause they get more for the pound than they should

they get the rent paid by the housing benefit, they have to pull £5 out of their own pocket

so in fact they are actualy recieving nearly a hundred pound a week in benefits

why dont i get a cold weather payment, i work hard and always have, i pay everything that needs to be paid, what do i get, naff all

WHAT.. clearly i misunderstood the forms =[ These guys must be smart in some ways to wangle 100 tax-free spendy-quids out each week and still be homed bathed (assuming that applies) and heated!!
