Hi,

Am going to remove my AIV system & have the wings off so want to remove the whole lot including the upper tanks.

I have seen all the removal instruction threads but on the drivers side tank is a larger diameter hose that dissapears through the inner wing & comes out somewhere under the brake servo - I can find no reference to this anywhere! Any ideas where it goes to?

Not had a great deal of time to look as was at work & shutting up shop time!

I know most people leave the tanks but if anyone knows would be grateful to know where it connects to!

Iv not mate as was rushing to get home!

If you look at the last pic on the link above it is from the tank at the top of the inner wing - it has a hose that goes down to the AIV unit & another hose that is routed through the inner wing where the vacuum line from the solenoid also runs. Curiously although the passenger side tank has an outlet it is blanked off & has no hose!

I am guessing it is what feeds the AIV system with air?!

Anyway - I will look further into it tomorrow

Hi - yes, if thats the one that goes through the inner wing!

Is your car a manual?

I think i remember removing that bottle and pipe as part of the manual conversion.

Hi - it is a TT manual - there is another tank below the AIV one on a manual TT for the clutch booster - I think you are talking about that. :)

Ah right.

That's the one i was thinking of.

I'll get me coat now!

You dump all that crap the tanks the chunky pipes the pipes going into the exhaust etc etc, u just gota make sure the small 4mm pipes from the plenum and aiv solenoids are going back into the plenum somehow, ah i cant remember to well i did mine ages ago.......

Them tanks are removable without taking the wings off, or at least they were on mine so that saved me a lot of time!

how on earth did you manage that? looks impossible without pulling the wings off, or you had a very small Japanese man helping you??

ok - stand down! Should have looked a little harder

The pipe in question just goes through the inner wing to atmosphere! All ripped out now

Just doesnt make sense where people say it can affect the idle on a standard ECU as it doesnt even link into the intake - which is what I was assuming LOL!

Some of the pipes go into an aiv solenoid fook knows what it does when it goes in there though... maybe it makes breakfast?

Well the solenoids just open the AIV valves under the wheelarch that then allow air in from the tanks - was just expecting some sort of pressure system really like we have on Mercs!!

Still - all gone now allong with the PRVR too! :thumbup1:

lost about 100m of vacuum pipe I reckon LOL :D
