Hi Guys, looking to refurb my cheapish 1 piece alloys, they have like 20 chrome faced alloy screw heads all the way round the rim.

My refurber said they were just plastic push in decorative types and they have to be removed to do the job and that new ones will be req'd....

Does anyone know where to get alloy spares like this?

The wheels are made by ACE (Ace 184's)

Cheers...

can you not chop a hex srew head and glue that in place. There are loads of colours to choose from.

Hi Bud, Have you phoned wheelbase in Manchester?, They stock `ACE` wheels and may be able to source the parts for you. I bought my `ACE` aviators from them, May be no use but worth a try.

Yes, thought if that. Would rather have a specific part though.

Yes mate, I bought them from there over 2 years ago. Rang them and no help at all really.

Dunno if this is any help ?

Bought a set of American Racing alloys for my 93 Camaro that were in poor condition, and they had these plastic chrome coated kid-on bolt heads as well.

I removed them, re-furbed the wheel edges by hand using various grades of sandpaper, finishing off with a diy polishing kit from Halfords and Farecla compound, final finish with Autosol. Painted the spokes a satin wheel silver and lacquered them last.

I ran a 8mm self cutting bolt into each hole, which threaded each hole, and then fitted M8 x M12 stainless button head bolts, easilly obtainable from any bolt supplier.

The wheels were kerbed, and plenty of crud underneath the original lacquer before I started.

Finish result was like this !

Much appreciated that Fella. Might have too do this myself.

Where did you get the self cutting bolt from??

Cheers...

You could also use a tap and die set, about £20from Halfords for a complete set, comes in useful for other jobs too

We use them all the time in the work, any hardware supplier will probably stock them.

I tried a tap at first, but it was too slow, no patience me !

The beauty of the cutting bolt is it takes about 2 mins to do one wheel !

Impact gun, or air ratchet on a soft setting, job done.

If you need the self cutting bolt, let me know and I can stick some in a Jiffy bag and post them down to you, FOC. Glad to help out !
