i have a series 4 so its a manual control for the fan speed.

it is playing up off late, i have off,1,2,3, and 4 speeds.

it works at a 3 speed or 4, it is probably 4, and if i move it down to 2 or 1 nothing happens. i move it fast from side to side and it does go off when at off but will then come on again at full speed and i have not touched anything!!

when it does decide to stay off, i move it from this off position past 1 and 2 and nothing happens, reach 3 and it all comes to life, bizarre.

all the direction control works fine and as no bearing on my speed control problem.

i do hear clicking from the dash passenger side, whats this and can i access whatever it is?

Not sure about Z's but the symptoms are similar on other cars, and it would point to the heater resistor. Basically it will blow at 'full blast' in this case setting 4. But with a faulty resistor it cannot resist the flow down to a lower setting. I have a spare one if you need one.

Hi Andy

I might have the answer to this one, possibly.

When i took the pod apart to do the leds, the slider for the speed came out, i may have put the little copper runner contact the wrong way round when i put it all back together.

So take the screws out of the rear cover of the pod, now the pod wont lift off like other series, it is attached to a ribbon cable, so you will have to lift up like its on a hinge. The ribbon cable is at the slider side of the pod. When you lift the rear cover up you will see the back of the speed slider on a bar, lift it out and you will see the 3 pronged copper contact sheet, turn it over and replace the slider, put it all back together and it should work as before.

As stated, i couldnt test it my car as i have digital climate pod which has a different plug on the back

HTH

cheers

Graham

thank you for the responses.

i will attend to that tomorrow graham, it does sound like that might be my problem.

without looking, it also sounds like hinges and ribbons - very much like you find a lot in mobile phones.

fingers crossed for tomorrow then, i will update thread as always to help others.

thanks again.

the 3 pronged piece of copper was just either floating loose or was the wrong way when i opened the pod up, it was not where it should of been.

put it back in its housing if you like and hey presto the speed control is now working perfectly again.

thanks people for all the help.

i expect you can make my 3 x stack 52mm gauges nice and blue?

they are clear backlit presently.

Are they sealed, or do they have bulb holders, or do they come apart ok?

If yes to the last two, then send em down for a tenner incl ret post.

had a little play with the one i have yet to fit and it looks like they are sealed. i have loosened off the nuts and the spade things and cannot get any movement at all, thought it may just slide off.

i dont of course want to break as they are not cheap!!!

anyway i have took a piccy.

tell me what you think.

:santa:

It may have been sealed at the factory to prevent condensation. It may just be glued at the bezel end to the cover. It will be a case of pulling the casing straight off rather than twisting, you may be able to get the bolts out of the housing using 2 nuts locked together and trying to loosen them out of the housing.

Let me know how you get on

i may not even try graham and just send all 3 off to you.

i was trying to pull off rather than twisting.

if you think you can do it just go ahead and do them.

what will we lose if you cannot, just a bit of postage.

maybe, will wait though til the new year, i will see.
