Basically i was wondering if this was an easy task.

Because i see alot of NA good condition cars go for peanuts.

When i say easy i mean i know ill need alot of kit, probably a donor car, but is the engine removal precedure reletively simple.

Ive only worked on renault 5's and e30's so no engines as big as these.

Will it devalue the car alot also?

Thanks

Mark

You can remove an engine in about half a day if you know yuor way around it. its alot of work to convert an NA to TT, for the money you would end up spending on it you might aswell just buy the swb tt to start with. They do come up now and then. theres a few very tasty cars in the for sale section at the mo.

I was thinking of doing the same, but I'd love to get an SWB shell then whack a V8 in, thats my idea of a project car lol :D

So it wouldnt be worth getting an engine and building that up to a high spec and then dropping it in, along with the necessary turbo ancilaries.

Ill have a look in the for sale now, thanks

depends on how much you want to spend and what spec you want, if your prepared to spend serious £££ then building and engine and getting some who has PROVEN experience and can show evidence of there work, then hi spec engine is the way to go but id seriously try and spend as much as you can on a good car to start with then play with the engine, coz if you buy a dog you will spend twice as much putting it right before you even think about mods and ugrades. just my 2 pence though chap good luck with the hunt:bow:

got a mate near me just bought a black swb TT looks nice.

 £750, how did you find that??

I look on piston heads and ebay and the for sale thread on here every day to keep my eye on the ball but ive never seen a deal like that.

It was a manual i was after btw, so if i did do the change i would manual conversion it while i was at it.

I see what you mean about not getting a dog though, it makes perfect sense.

I was hoping to either get a nice example, or go cheap and get one with rough bodywork, as i dont mind matt blacking it then as long as the engine is all good.

Ill still keep my eye out for a car :D

I cant wait to get one, ive been aiming for one for years now.

Mine was an ebay find, turns out it was a member of this forum aswell, "Cheers Niel" but she is now running great and i have an amazingly rare bumper coming in jan and then in full bodykit fit and respray, and while thats being done wheels are going off for full refurb and paint aswell, Shame mines auto but it will defo be going manual in the new year. your not too far away so if you want someone to come look at any motors with you just give me a shout chap.

Cheers Craig

thanks very much, they are carcept side skirts stole them off ebay!;)

Done the conversion and it isn't financially viable, just buy a good tt in the first place!

thought that would be the case.

Saying that i wouldnt be put off by getting an auto, Im stunned at how quick and responsive mine is. If i wasnt looking to up the power id leave it an auto. Worst case you do a manual conversion later.

I just think to have a fast car thats an auto kinda defeats the object, ive been in both manual and auto 300s and i prefered the manual, in my mind i think theres less to go wrong aswell, ive heard horror stories about the auto boxes not being maintained.

But when the time comes i doubt colour or transmission will sway me from getting one, all will be considered.
