My son has a Toyota Celica convertible (M Reg) and the key is stuck in the ignition. The only way you can remove the key is by disconnecting the battery. Appreciate this is not a ZX, but has anyone had this experience before? I am guessing that there must be relay or something that prevents removal at some stage. Any assistance appreciated.

push the key further in and turn anti clockwise. Also my supra had a button to press before the key would come out.

my zed has a little button to press to take the key out as well. thought mine got stuck the first time i tried to take the key out lol

yeah i would ask first if its got a turbo timer fitted? do a search on the tinternet with Toyota Celica key stuck in ignition loads of stuff to help.

No turbo timer and no button. He has had the car for a while and never had a problem before so it has to be related to something electrical as the only way you can get the key out is to disconnect the battery. Very strange.

Is it an auto? if so make sure its in park, if that does not work try wiggling the lever in and out of park while turning the key, failing that you may need to disable the auto park interlock, remove the steering cowling and it should be removable if its anything like the zed interlock.

Hope that helps
