In summer 2008 I had a full respray on my car, during the winter of 2008/09 the car came out in tiny blisters all over, I took it back to the paint shop and when it came back the blisters had gone, I asked what they had done to it and said it had just been in the oven.

 

Anyway, I was happy because my car was how it should be again...

 

However, tonight I went to wash my car again and its come out in all these tiny blisters again...

 

I understand it may be poor prep and moisture trapped beneath the lacquer but how can I remove them?

 

Is it a case of putting it back in the oven, or having it repainted?

You could try some G3 on it. You might be lucky and the bubbles are on the surface. Failing that, don't know mate.

I would have thought they mopped the car to remove them last time, depending on the paints thickness that could be done again but you obviously have an underlying problem for it to return again, either moisture in the paint or a reaction between paint layers?

Blisters? Sounds like you have moisture trapped under the paint and they baked the car to hide it.

Micro blisters , thay are caused when moisture is trapped under the paint , usually in the primer , only way to get rid is strip it and re-paint making sure the car is completely dry , hence why spray ovens are at a set temperature when applying the top coat .

hi pal ,boldy is right by the sounds of it poor prep,and trapped moisture under the top coat .or its air bubbles in the filler,is it all over or just in places,perhaps where repairs have been done

No no its all over :-( the thing is though it dosnt bother me whilst its like that over winter as the car isnt used, just could do with knowing how to remove it for summer like I had done before, the respray was done by a friend of a friend and cost £690 for the entire car, I knew all along it wouldnt be mint, but the daft part about it, it is mint!! except for these bloody pimples :-(

hi mate just probally very quick prep and paint using cheap products or even the dredded celly primer (AR*EHOLE CANS) UNDER THE TOP COAT THEN, AS £690 FOR A RESPRAY EVEN FROM A FRIEND IS A BARGAIN TO BE HONEST THOUGH THE ONLY WAY TO GET RID IS TO HAVE IT STRIPPED BACK AND REPAINTED AND MOST BODYSHOPS WILL WANT A DECENT WACK FOR THIS AS THEY WOULD BE EXPECTING TO HAVE A NIGHTMARE REMOVING IT ALL SO NOT TO GET TH SAME RE-ACTION

Obviously completly agree- my freind who is also a bodyshop specialist says it occurs when some primers are used an left too long before subsequent painting as they absorb and hold moisture- keeping dry after stripping and during repaint is paramount as you said.

 

So many projects sit for months in primer, especially where repairs and kits are fitted over a period, in conditions of moist air and cause problems when painted as the owners feel the preparation has been done by themselves, and don't want to pay more than they can.
