Hey Guys,

I was out for a drive last week. The car had been in stop start traffic for a while and it was a cold wet day. The aircon was running on auto at 24 degrees. Without any warning - all the windows steamed up solid - I couldn't see a thing!! I fiddled with the heater controls and got it to clear using the windscreen demister.

I know this doesn't sound like a huge problem but I am crapping myself that its going to happen whilst doing 100 up a motorway at night sometime.

It has not happened again and I am wondering if it is something that will get worse with time or that is indicative of a particular fault with the aircon system. Other than this incident the system works fine.

In case it helps the car is a '92 JDM LWB TT.

Thanks in advance  - Cyrus

Usually indicative of damp or water leak in the car, it shouldnt happen whilst driving as air will pass through the vents naturally, but at stand still, certain factors come into play. Youre body heat temp outside etc,

Mine does it occasionally on a wet day

Also a sign of heater matrix leaking, although it would normally do it all the time once leaking, not once off.

If you had a whiff of anti freeze at the same time it can be a sign that your heater matrix just sprung a leak once the water pressure was good and high. Fits with being stuck in traffic! Known issue. When the footwell gets wet and the windows regularly steam up you'll know its got bad. Look for signs of dripping from under the dash. Changing the matrix is not fun. Chances are it wouldnt happen again on a motorway, more likely in stop start traffic - if indeed this is the problem.

It is all completely dry in the foot well - car does not leak at all that I know of. Would that rule out the heater matrix?

After a hard sex session mine seems to steam up. But all i say to the wife is my targas are leaking.

Can you tell me where the drain is zxalex?

Not sure I think somewhere beside the bulk head (for what good that is) soz..... maybe someone else could pin point where it is. Look to see where the water comes from on the ground after car is sitting at a standstill after a/c being on.

Another possibility is blocked channels/drains again corners of windscreen.. my mates car had leaves/dirt blocking them so the rain water was going into the tunnel where the internal fan is for the heater. (this was in his Audi).

I hope this is of some help.
