tnt are ready to launch a new last mile postal service, bet they are clapping their hands lol

Yeah, but it wont help much.

I understand why people feel the need to strike but history tells us these things are largely responsible for the destruction of British industry.

As well as incompetent and short sighted management of course, and the fact that unlike the US, France, Germany, Italy etc., our government does not feel the need to retain core skills in the country and is prepared to let major iconic companies collapse. Except for the banks of course, where the money pit is endless for those who ruined the economy...

Rant over.

I cant blame them, the posties are treated like crap. they seem to be doing a postal round on their own which used to be done by 3 posties. they dont even get out to their 1st post untill 10am as they have to spend so much more time sorting their post out before. My post used to get to me at 10am, now its about 3 pm

....

Yeah, after all **** the workers, why do they need job security? Decent working conditions? Good pay for a good job? A proper pension?

Yeah STUFF them all! Just trample all over them, rub them into the dirt, they'll work for a pittance if they really need to eat!

i just hope the poor buggers on the front line get their christmas post and parcels, must be awful for them out there when their only connection with their loved ones is via mail.

I spoke to a few mates and i think they are just striking on friday not thursday now.

i dont have too much sympathy with the strike as i fully agree with the changes they need to make, the equipment they use is 100 years old and needs to me modernised to provide a better service but this is going to mean job losses but they business needs to move on and be competitive in todays market.

the other reason is management is asking the posties to work their full hours, at the moment when they have done their round they get overtime for staying until their hours are up or they can go home but management are saying work your full 8 hours and we will need less posties?? tough but makes business sense.

As usual the unions use the members to get what they want.

My take on it having worked for royal mail years ago is it needs to be dragged into this century. The company had a large amount of workshy lefty types who stood behind the union to keep their jobs.Royal mail is like the British leyland of the postage world and its employees have been dragging there feet as they know that when its modernised it wont be the wheeze it always was.The unions are claiming its about pay and conditions!! The local Depot in Bristol has a subsidised Gym,canteen, snooker tables !! And the Pops pension scheme is probaly the best youll get in the country.poor posties

Won't really matter to us as we normally get our mail around 3pm so if its anything important its got to wait till the next day anyway.

Let Bacchus out the other day just as he put the post through (not on purpose we were going out) soon shifted his fooking arse then:rofl::rofl:

I have to agree with both the above statements. Times must and inevitably do change and the PO must get with it. You simply cannot pay staff wages for an 8 hour day when they only work (say) 5 hours - that's poor business sense. And even if the PO remains nationalized; that's our tax money down the u-bend, which could be going towards a better NHS or (heaven forbid) clearing some of Gordon's national debt:(

Richard:nono:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

can't say i have any sympathy for them at all, the post office seems to be viewed by it's employees as a government organisation which owes them a favour.

the changes they are brining in are needed to ensure it's survival. I'm amazed the strike mentality is still around....It killed the british car industry.

I listened to an employee being interviewed by Jeremy Vine the other day. he was asked why he voted yes to striking and what his biggest objection was. he paused for a moment then said he objected to being on a tighter schedule than before, in that he had to take his van straight round from one area to another, then was only allowed a 15 minute break.

I'm sure the post office have given it's employees a nice easy ride over the years and are only now asking for something back. it's time to look at the bigger picture......No employer = no job, 15 minute break or not. if this goes on there will be no post office within 5 years

Im praying for royal mails privatisation.I get parts shipped from the states on a regular basis.Whenever Royal mail parcelfarce get there mits on it i know im in for a long wait.Everytime i deal with them its a feckin nightmare. They think im clairvoyant and automatically know they have my parcel and wont release it till their stupidly inflated customs charges are paid.I never get a letter to tell me its in the country but they always say one was sent.Royal mail needs grabbing by the throat and shaking till it chokes.I say sack the strikers and have a huge forest fire to burn out the dead wood the company employs.rant over

I thought you paid the custom n excise and the post office just collected the money for em.

I guess with all firms there will people who agree with the changes and those that dont. But the bigest pisser for me after being on strike was finding out union reps still get paid when every other bugger doesnt so they dont give a fart and want you to strike .

As from making them a privite company that would be a big no no for me look whats happen to all the other goverment owned companies that was sold off, we all got are being shafted by them

as i said earlier, they are just shooting themsleves in the foot, tnt are ready to launch a mail service for delivering the letters and so on to your door, if royal mail strike the big companies like amazon and so on are going to use a differetn company and as no other delivery company will have posties guess who is going to get their work, yup TNT

the union bosses are tossers, they roll out of there beds in their million pund houses into their bmw's and drive along to the strike for support, they only stop an hour or so and fook off with the excuse that they have more work to do elsewhere, bullshit, they fook off back to the office for coffee and biscuits lol, i know-i worked in the offices once of a union and over heard quite a lot that prob wasnt supposed to lol

My mate's auntie works part time in Lincoln for royal mail, last christmas everyone received £1000 bonus (even part timers) and I guess that was echoed across the country. Is that not a good thing?

I doubt anyone in the country would take going on strike lightly, there will always be a few that want an easy ride at any expense but on a national vote to strike, if the majority said yes then there must be good reason, I personally would back them, being a member of a large union and seeing how blue collar workers are being treated in this country its about time we stood up and said no.

Reading your responses I guess we have a few management types on the forum. My company for example made every employee ( and there are thousands) take on average a 10% pay cut, the company at no time was affected by the recession and continues to make large profits, the recession was a good excuse to make more.

I think we need other companies on the scene and stop the royal mail monopoly, i for one will use another company over the royal mail. Strike for more money while a recession is on and also cause other companies millions with a knock on effect of possible more job losses to those other companies using there service.:xxx:

These guy wind me up, but it will back fire and good.

Just like to add, TNT and DHL could NOT offer any kind of replacement service....YET

but it wouldnt suprise me if in the future you cold see a postie dressed in yellow and red delivering in say the centre of london.

No other postal company would be able to set up the infastructure to be able to take over a large area

TNT are a big company but i dont think they have that many staff world wide LOL my bet if anyone was going to take a punt at royal mail would be deuche post who own DHL but both MD's of TNT and DHL in this country have already said their many years away from being able to offer a proper door to door letter service which is much different to a door to door small package service which they both can do.
