Hi guy's. I have decided to get my dodgy speedo repaired whilst my car is off the road. Basically sometimes the speedo reads 0 whilst going along so I have been driving it around for the last year it was on the road with the top cowling off because sometimes when you press the LH connector in at the back the needle shoots into life.

This says to me that the sender in the gearbox is good. Also the low fuel warning light has never worked. Not sure if it's all connected. There doesn't seem to be any provision for this at the back.

I have tried another speedo cluster in the car and, sure enough all works perfectly including the low fuel warning.

I'm a little stuck. Does anyone know how to find this fault? Or how to fix it? Or if anyone has any experience of this kind of delicate electrical work and can actually do the repair?

Apologies for the long post.

Ivan

I have EXACTLY the same 2 problems mate! Let us know how you get on buddy, mine is in my garage anyways, awaiting a new loom, so best time to do it, mine was the same with my auto box, and after the conversion to yes yes oh yay manual, so must be the cluster....

Right had a look at it. The fuel light was a bulb. The speedo however is getting signal voltage but just not turning the needle. I think the motor might be up the swanny. Does anyone know anyone that can replace it? Or is a Jap speedo circuit board the same as a UK one?

certain parts are different, would have thought the motor that moves the needle could be exchanged though. one way to find out!

Hmmm. Trouble is it's crimped onto the board and I don't want to be getting it off and knackering the board. Does anyone know anyone who's an instrument mechanic or a TV repair man or something that could perform this job for me?
