problem with my speedo

Got me jap inport 6 months ago and for some stupid reason the clock has only got 120 mph on it. Very annoying. Also I have strong reasons to belive its reading wrong. Cause someone clocked me doing a 140 mph and my clock said 110 mph. (Hope theres no police reading this) The clock looks the same in colour and design to my rev counter so what the hecks going on. Can anyone help me please!!!!!!!!!!!

mine had that 120 mph clock as well. If you take it apart you will find its only a sticker over the origional 180 KMH clock. You can then get a converter from Luke at the Z center (only 4 wires to connect) and this will make your 180 KMH clock into a 180 MPH clock.

Glad it wasn't the police doing the clocking then! My J import is the same - they are restricted to 170kph (I think - but probably somone here knows exactly) for Japan. (Similar for bikes BTW.)

Sticking the sticker on simply changes the units you are reading from kph to mph if you see what I mean.

If you don't de-restrict, then the sticker thing is the cheapest / least invasive option. If you do derestrict, you should make sure the conversion does what paulg says as you would look foolish not knowing how much more than 120mph you were doing biggrin.gif

Speedos vary in accuracy - say 10% +/- (there is a legal amount I think but don't know what it is) so it is poss that you and your mate's speedo were up and down by enough to give the readings you saw when you were actually doing about 120/125 (allegedly).

Because my speedo seemed to swing up and down very slowly, I thought it was broken (do they all do this, BTW?) so put it on a dyno to get both a power run and a speedo calibration check. They said it was OK.

Also its a good idea to find an "Anorak" type person because these people have handheld GPS units and can tell you exactly how fast your going. My speedo was accurate to within around 2 Mph after fitting the converter.

Mine is well out. Its only 1-2 mph out up to 40 odd about 5-6 out at 80 and when my speedo said I was going 100, the GPS said 91.
