thinking about treating myself to an sub and amp. don't want anything mega heavy just like a bit of bass with my music every now and again.

can anyone recommend a sub and amp package?

if i get 400w sub do i need a 400w amp? i don't know how you measure out a reliable sound system.

was looking to spend around the £200 mark or very near. Please could someone point to me what would be a good set up?

links are acceptable aswell if you only have the time for a copy and paste

Is this just 1 amp powering 1 sub?

I'm using an Alpine V12 mono amp that i got on ebay with a 10" pioneer sub (forget the model now). Housed in a sealed custom mdf box.

Alpine amp is definately good stuff if there are any going on ebay right now...

Do you just want a generic box that is plonked in your boot or you looking to make a fitted box?

Can get an ok 12" 250 watt (RMS) generic setup plonkned in for £180

Or an ok single 10" 200 watt (RMS) setup made to fit for £220 (do it yourself)

Or an ok dual 10" 300 watt (RMS) setup made to fit for £300 (do it yourself)

i would prefer it to be fitted so it looked neater when i do the re trim to the car :)

thanks for suggestions and keep em coming.

The Alpine tyre R does look good and my uncle is a carpenter who waid hell provide mdf for boot build if needed.

is 200 watt strong enough for the very occasional song with a tad more bass?

my mate had a sub and amp and the amp burned out lol... think its was fusion or something like that.

I really am new to the amp scene and so have not got aclue when it comes to amps...

everyone else i know keep saying i need 1000amp+ but when i see 200 - 300 w amps i start to wonder if 1000+ is overkill?

ive got a 10" Focal one i think, sitting at stellaz house.

Not sure what it sounds liek but ive been told they are 1 of the best in the business.

Those telling you that you need 1000watts are retarded idiots that buy cheap rubbish with crap bullshit power ratings lol

Think thats to the point lol

A true 150watt RMS amp will piss all over a boy racer pretend 1000watt amp any day of the week and sound far far better as well.

thats good to know :) cheers for the tip

Little comparison for you.

A true 250watt RMS qualty amp that costs over a grand

And a pretend 1000 watt amp that costs £90

Now im not saying that you need to spend thousands, but you really do need to ignor power ratings and what people say about big numbers.

The first amp would blow up most speakers under £200 on the market in a blink of an eye if you let it, the second would be underpowered and sound like poo. Trick is to find a ballance between the two. Hard to do on a budget but not impossible :)

a 10 inch focal 1 the girls would luv u lol:cool::cool:

bang for buck a pair of jbl gt5's and a jbl14001e mono block will rock(and I mean proper loud) and are pretty good for sq too setting you back about £350 new for the lot

you can push the full 700w rms through each of those puppies from that amp(it will do a full true 1400w rms if you don't believe me get on the audio forums) all day and they'll love it

bit lower power 2 x gt5's and a 7001e 350w rms to each sub( a true 700w rms from the 7001e) and cost you about £250 the lot

unless your talkin bigs buck for hi end JL Audio, focal, morel or the like you aint gonna do as good as the above for your budget

Oh dear, dont fool yourself. At BEST its 400 watts RMS, and I mean at VERY best, running in LAB conditions on an AC circuit with a non varying load and running at 100% efficaincy at 1ohm.

Real world, DC, varying load, 50-60% efficiancy at 4ohm = 100ish true RMS

That said, its a very nice amp and would be great for your needs and even more!

Thats like me saying check out the Saxo forums they say they run 500bhp and do a standing quater mile in 8 seconds.

Just cos a bunch of people who dont know any better are saying so, doesn't make it true ;)

It is a nice amp, already said that, 1400 watts RMS it aint
