Glow sills/panel

hello all, just been brought to my attention, that not only does my fairlady have a glow rear panel(waiting for a new inverter) but glow sills too...

however the drivers side is not glowing, there are fancy blue lights under the cockpit when the door opens could this have something to do with it??or will be a fuse?or wire connection?

Please advise.............

I had the same problem, what you need to do is buy an EL (Electroluminescent) strip and replace the one underneath the 300zx plate.

Usually they die out when either moisture gets underneath and shorts it and causes the connector to rust, or it has just reached the end of it's life...

You'll need to buy a pair though to match the colour and it'll need to be roughly 6 inches long.

Take care when peeling the EL strip from the 300zx plastic plate just incase you break it lol.

Hope that helps.. And lucky you to have them too :)

I would also check that the connection from the underfloor lights isn't shorting the sill lights out too. But I suspect the EL strip has just died out. If you are electrically minded, check the whole lot over. lol - If not, buy a new working strip - they cost pennies.

many many thanks for that, very helpful indeed and much appreciated,,,worse case scenario where do i get the strip from???ebay?maplins?

i know my rear panel is not working possibly due to a blown inverter would replacing that suss it out???could they be connected??passenger one works???

You can get a strip from ebay yeah, they are pretty awkward to find because of the spelling and wording of it. Your best off looking on ebay.com and contact some of the sellers who specialise in el strips - you will need one roughly 6 inches, but you could get one or 2 of those,.

At the mo, there is alot of 12inch ones and they are flexible.. but you're best off with a 6incher for screwing holes..LOL.

If you need an inverter for your rear panel, buy this from RS components

item no. 267-8863 - I know it works, because I have it on mine. Dead simple, can't go wrong with it.

The rear panel, as far as i'm aware is wired into the side lights.. which isn't connected to the glow sills. :)
