At slow speed (less than 5mph) I get very loud brake squeal when I apply brakes which is a PIA in traffic queues etc. I have brembos off a skyline with Ferodo 2000 pads. Is there any solution. i remember someone suggesting copper grease behind the pads?

You need some shims for the pads and some copper grease to put in between the pads and shims to stop it. If you cant get the shims then at least do the grease!!

Just scouring through the old stuff for info - spotted this thread and thought I'd borrow it =)

I also get a soft brake squeal from very light pedal pressure (stock brakes) - will a bit o' grease sort this out too?

Thanks,

Raz

I've done the grease thing. Not much improvement. How much of the stuff should be used? I assume just a smear. What about putting some grease on the disc where it meets the wheel hub?

Coogs,

You want a reasonable amount of grease so that the whole of the back of the pad looks like it's copper - but still a fairly thin layer.

Shouldn't be needed anywhere else.

I grease the back of the pads and the faces of all the shims. Can't really get to the pistion without risking getting gease on the rotor, but it works fine for me.

I also occasionally get a high pitched whine, almost like air escaping, when I brake reasonably hard. I believe this is something to do with the servo and that it's a reasonably common problem. Oddly enough it sounds almost like it comes from inside the car from down by the pasenger footwell. However, it doesn't seem to affect operation (yet) and I don't much fancy replacing the servo on the off chance.
