Here is a little surprise that showed up during a cambelt change, this particular zed had been serviced by a main dealer for some years and the owner had decided to not keep paying the high charges.

So given the last time the front of the engine was opened up it was in a main dealer`s workshop how odd to see the bulk of the thermostat missing, when the bit left in was removed it was evident the functioning part had been hacksawed off?? very bizzare, oh and the upshot is an overcooled engine running in warm up mode all of the time using excessive fuel and not achieveing full boost.
