car been off road a long time.. advice needed

car has been off the road for way over a year now, wanna get it back on to be honest. did a few jobs on it today. i charged battery and tried to start it, only problem is it was turning over but wouldn't start? (this happened to me the last time i tried to start it but i gave up coz at that point i wasn't in a rush to get it back on the road) Do u think it could be bcoz the fuel could be bad? that fuel has been in tank probably 18 months. or wat other probs u think it cud be? I was told last time PTU could be the problem but I bought a known working series 1 PTU and it made no difference. any input/ ideas welcome

any fault codes mate??

to b honest, i dont know how to check.

i would rule out fuel mate. i started a car the other day that had been stood for 4 years and it fired up and run fine on the fuel it had. have you checked all the electrical connectors in sight?? and cleaned them?

well, i think i have? it does sound like its gonna start, but just doesnt fire up. really wana get it sorted asap tbh :(

i dont think there are any leaks. still got half tank lol. no visible leaks or petrol smell. i had a problem in the past... but it happened when i put my dump valves on and never before that... basically what happened was i was driving... and the car kinda hesitated and cut out... i started it back up and down the road it cut out again... i assumed it was bcoz of the dump valaves so they have been removed and recircs are back in place (that was another job a did today) thanks for ya input mikey, oh man, i need a nice simple car

i think your best bet at the min would be the ecu code check. its quick and easy to do. there is a guide on here somwhere which im sure somebody will put a link up to soon:)

i will do a search - thanks :)

Ecu fault codes are a usful tool in tracing possible engine problems quickly. To access these codes the ecu needs to be put into test mode. To do this you need to access to the unit itself, it is located in the passenger footwell under a wooden board secured by 4 x 10 mm bolts. then the ecu can beidentified by been the one with the very large blue connector. release the unit by undoing the 3 x 10mm bolts.

Once removed, turn the unit until a little window with and led is visable.Next to this will be a screw, with the ignition on turn this screw fully clockwise, count to 2 then return to original position. The led on the unit and the engine check light on the dash will now flash the first longer flashes are the tens the second shorter flashes are the units, so 5 long flashes followed by 5 short flashes is code 55 which indicates all clear. If complete return to normal mode by turning the screw fully clockwiseagain, count to 2 then return to original position. The led will now be lit, turn off the ignition and refit the ecu.

i might go do this right now

well firstly i would take a look at the wiring for the sensor then. these sensors have a small live voltage and if the wire is cut or burnt through it might be earthing out on somthing and could of blown a fuse causing the car not to start. happened to a friend the other week in a different car but worth checking:)

hmmm... ok i guess i will do some researching and bookmarking through this site tonight.

thanks alot for ya input. appreciated
