hi ive been looking into sorting my speedo face in my 1995 n/a as the speedo face has been switched to a mph one but looks like its folding away from the speedo surround due to the mounting pionts on it not fitting my cluster propely, i think the kph face was a series 4 and the mph face from a series 1/2

the only clock faces i can find that will mount up properly are from the us which go up too 160 mph i also understand that the resistor mod wont work in my 1995 clocks so cant adjust them the make it read right

so what are my options ? anyone have some ideas dont care if they are black or indiglo or read to 120 mph or 180 just want it to look neat

also i can see a resistor on my speedo pcb even though series 4 has anyone actually tried changing this ?

I could be wrong, but as i see it the faces should be the same pretty much on all series, its the actual clock fitting and shape that mounts to the dash cluster that differs to the series 4.

I would say that the dial face may not have been fitted properly in the first place, as i say i could be wrong, ive never worked on a series 4, but the indiglow dials fit all series as far as im aware.

If the face was replaced, the needle has to come off, good chance that it wasnt replaced properly, they are a bitch to get right.

There will be a resistor on all the pcb speedo's, its part of the circuitry and the ohm'age deterimines the current going through it.

series 4 speedo face is slightly different, the 2 lower mounting points are in a very slightly different place, when i changed my face i elongated the bottom holes a bit and added a dab of superglue

a lot of the series 4 speedo is surface mount components and the circuit is different, amongst other things there is no adjustment pot (variable resistor)

it would be possible to change the correct resistor but:

afaik there is no "how to"

you would have to work out which resistor and what value to change it to

you have to be able to solder surface mount

so im probably better off getting a replacment 180 speedo face and modding to fit then using a mph converter ?

for the jap conversion i think the resistor needs to be changed to a 10k or 100k( its been a while i will have to look it up) even then you would have to use the pots to adjust, which as ianl stated the series 4 does not have.

I would persevere with the face change and leave the circuitry alone, as he stated it is do-able and yes, get a convertor, although they can cause problems of their own ie: power steering , hicas issues although nothing major

no hicas on mine anyway so guess id better get a replacment speedo face and mod it to fit then get mph converter

many thanks for your help :)
