i have been looking to sort out a running issue on the zed since i had it about 3 months ago. i think i have done absolutly everything mention on this site and i would hope it will run fantastically one the final niggle is sorted. however

the car still has a slight lumpiness on idle and runs very rich.

 

this evening i sorted a leak form the idle valves which has now brought the idle down consistently to 850rpm (i had already cleaned then before).

 

while letting it idle i noticed a bit of a noise from the ns cam cover which wored me alot. took the cam belt cover off and i could not pin point the noise (i was expecting the belt to have started delaminating. turns out its the cas ( i think)

 

basically would a failed cas beaing cause inconsistant starting (either starts inediatly or sometimes takes a second or 2) , rich running/poor fuel consumption and a general lack of guts.

 

i did find it a bit stange when i set the timing that i had to rotate the cas alot

 

 

please someone tell me this will sort it. oh and does anyone have one?

You are only meant to turn the CAS when setting up the timing.

 

OP - A failed/failing CAS will cause all sorts of problems, including the ones you mention. A breakers should have one, or try Fleabay.

 

Running rich may be down to an O2 sensor, but sort the CAS out first and go from there.

spoke to zed world today and they said it is probobly not to blame however i have ordered a replacement off them which should turn up tomorrow or friday as it is making a noise still.

 

i am not too sure about the rich running being down to the lambda sensors as the only control mixture up to around 3k and not at full throttle.

 

suppose it could be the maf. however the car should run with the maf disconnected and mine dont so points to a problem elsewhere.

 

Anyway the car is booked in to zedworld now for the 3rd oct so i hope that will put an end to it.

 

looking forward to installing the manual box and turning up the boost

hi mate, sorry for long time until reply.

 

I did have issues with getting car there in the end and went local.

 

the garage was good but i asked to get water leak fixed as it leaked badly after a little drive. i mentioned to the garage that they will only find the leak after a test drive but they didnt see the leak and left it , that is fair as you don;t fix what is not broken.

 

After picking car up i could see that the leak was there still and it is hitting the exhaust manifolds (only on harder drives)

 

Obviously this is not exactly garages fault because car was not MOT'd and therefor its not fair for him to test drive it and risk his licence.

just wished i went zedworld in the end as they might of found leaking pipe straight away. I have a manual conversion kit im picking up in two weeks to fit over the winter.

 

once that is fitted i will book MOT at zedworld and get them to do the pipe that is leaking.

 

I think car will be off road until march at this rate as i have no idea how i am going to drop the Gearbox to change it without a ramp. :headvswal

I've dropped mine 3 times mate, it's awkward tho, but i just jacked her up about 18 inches and put the front on axel stands, the auto box is proper heavy tho, but i'm only a weakling and i removed mine myself in a few hours when i did my manual conversion... :-)

cool :) now i just need to do that in a few weeks and then get it booked into jeff to get pipework done :bow::bow::bow:

my manual conversion is going to take a bit of time as i have got to get my project car onto its wheels so i can move it out of my garage. (its a bare shell by the way)

 

i think ill take it off the road for a month or two to sort out everything at once.
