I've scoured the forum for these basic answers but cannot find what I need to know.

 

1) Do I have to remove my headlights just to fit some bulbs?

2) On the high beam clip, what is the action to remove it? (pinch the ends together etc?) Been trying for ages but seems stuck!

 

I ordered a set of bulbs for my headlights from ebay which are all H3's which I now know won't fit. as far as I can see, the outer bulbs are H3C's, the inner mains have the H1 3 pin connector, but looking through the lens (as I can't remove either) the ends resemble H3 tips - Do the Jap cars have an adaptor ring and standard H1's will definitely fit?

Dont know of reassembling them, probably easier to buy some H3C's i mean they are only like 6quid (CLICKY) I got a Set of the H1 bulbs for the Full Beam and they fitted in fine. I believe that the Fog Light main beam is also H1 and the Side light in it is a 501 if iirc

1. To remove MAIN beam bulbs, push the spring clip TOGETHER and pull out. The H1 bulb is fitted to an adapter.

2. JDM Dip Beam bulbs are indeed H3C and I have these in stock (£11/pair).

 

And finally, just to correct Munny975: fog lights are H3. Side lights are indeed 501.

 

If you require any bulbs (or HID kit) please let me know as that is one of the things I sell on this forum.

I can see that on the o/s headlight, accesss is possible, but the inlet tubes are in the way on the n/s for the main beam?

It is a bit fiddly but a little patience and a lot of scratched hands later and you'll manage it!

 

H1 is the only fitting for the main beam. Push the clips together and remove the whole assembly. The H1 bulb is a press-fit into the adaptor. Remove the old one once you have taken it out of the light, press in the new one and clip the whole assembly back into the lamp.

I thought I'd better make sure of the facts. I still don't understand why the H1 only does the high beam, but with three pins it must surely have two filaments? When I look in the headlamp glass it looks like just one filament as the H3C has:confused:

No it is just a single filament. The spring clip that holds it in place is actually part of the complete bulb holder, so squeeze them together and pull the hole thing out (3 pins and all) as opposed to trying to unclip a conventional retainer.

It freed itself off this morning - now I can see the adaptor it all makes sense !

 

For the n/s main beam I've removed one of the air inlet pipes but the main loom is right infront of the aperture - are there any other bits to take off, if not it will be easier to take the s*dding headlamp out.

No, just remove the intake pipe and you should have plenty of access to the back of the headlight.

 

Removing the headlight is no simple task either as there is one bolt at the back that's nearly impossible to get to and still have enough purchase to twist your screwdriver! Trust me, removing a pipe is much simpler (make sure it's warmed up - makes it easier to move).

Thanks, there just isn't a way to do it with the wiring loom in front of the aperture - except if I chainsaw it!

 

I opted to take the headlight out which gives you some kind of idea just how awkward it is to get to the bulb fitting!

 

Done now ;-)

I have bought some 100w H1 bulbs for the main beam and fit today, just got them for flashing at folk really, get out the bloody way kinda thing!!! :yes:

The pipes must be removed for sure and even after that it is near impossible, especially the passenger side.

Stick with it though and it can be done. I removed the rubber seal on the passenger side, again not an easy job in itself as its kinda stuck on over the years, and thought I will never get this back on!!!! After fitting the new bulb I then just offered up the rubber and with some blind pushing and poking with your fingers at full extent, it to my surprise did go back on quite well and seated perfectly. :tt2:

Cut and scuffed hands is about spot on!!!! :sneaky2:

Just be grateful we don't drive Renault Meganes as you need to remove the entire front bumper to access the head lights. Cost my neighbour £230 to change a blown bulb!

Cost me just the price of these, incredibly cheap from HK, don't know about longevity but eh I will cross that bridge, the ones I took out were phillips ones, and have been stored away just in case.

I don't know why the HK ones are described as xenon and white as they are clearly not alongside my HID dipped :blink: but I didn't buy them for that.

 

Regarding the Meganes that's just ridiculous, they would not sell any in the showroom if Renault made the buyers aware of what is involved price wise for a simple bulb change :huh:

Renault designed that car that way, lets hope a bulb change is covered under warranty, probably not though!!! :laugh:
