Hi all,

I was installing my new HIDs the other day and noticed there's a wire not plugged into a connector:

It's located on the passenger side of the engine, right next to the plenum. Can anyone shed any light on what it's for and why it's not connected?

Cheers,

Brian

its the o2 sensor.

if it has gone wrong then unplugging it will make the ecu run off the base map.

plug it in and see how it runs. if it makes it worse then you neen a new sensor. if you have cats still then it will have gone aswell

Aah, that'll explain why I seem to be overfuelling at full boost then! Can you elaborate on the cats comment? I know the car has a stainless exhaust from the cats back so I assume the cats are still in place.

Why will the cat have gone because the o2 sensor was unplugged?,as you say the default for not reading the sensor will be rich but it wont be enough to damage the catalyst.

Yup, as you know, one of mine didn't work and hadn't for a while. My cats were fine. :)

Cool, I'll plug it back in tomorrow on the way back from work and see how the car runs. The overfuelling issue was on my list of things to do so hopefully that'll be one diagnosed/knocked off the list then!

Get it hooked up to Conzult when you plug it in the connector and see what the sensors are ready. Might be that that one was reading out of range. Can't understand why it would be uplugged though as it'll only end up running defualt map in both instances.

I don't know anyone with Conzult at the moment, would I be able to run the oxygen sensor test that's documented elsewhere to check them as reliably?

Pass. Not sure on that as I've only ever had Conzult available for me to check them with.

you sure the o2 sensor is not the one below it with the red and white wires? looks like a vvt connector to me!

O2 sensor has 3 wires.

As above, O2 sensor has 3 wires. Not 2 and the wires for the O2 sensor are black and 2 white I think. Certainly not red.

O2 sensor has 3 wires.

maybe you just cant see the other wire! pretty sure it is not the knock sensor though wrong place!

dan.;)

I was talking 3 wires for the O2 sensor. The one below definately isn't an O2 connector. But come to think of it, no, it's not the knock sensor connector either. That's a black and white wire also. Been ages since I took it off!

pretty sure its the plug of the vtc solenoid thats been disconected.

I'll see if i cant get a clearer picture of the wires going into the connector today and upload it after work :)

Are you sure its not the boost solenoid connectors? All they have done is unplug the connectors, not removed the solenoid. Thats what is looks to me. If so don't worry, its up to you if you want to leave them plug in. instructions on how to move are here

Turns out I'm a bit of a muppet. The connector to the right of the pic is fine and plugged in and everything, it's only the connector on the left which was unconnected. For some reason I got confused and thought the connector on the right of the picture plugged into the bit circled on the left.

Anyway, the left connector does indeed have 3 wires going into it (red, white, black) and I plugged it in on the way home from work. Not really sure if there's a difference in the car, I was more concerned to discover my clutch is slipping massively when I hit 3-4k revs at full throttle :\ do clutches take time to warm up before they can handle the power?

Back on topic, I'm going to do an ECU diagnostic tonight now that the sensors plugged back in, to see if it throws up any o2 sensor errors. Thanks for all the help guys!
