Something isnt right with the ones that are on the car now.

5 of them have simply snapped off whilst driving! I only noticed today so could have been a week or so since they snapped off

Im trying to source some longer ones, but goes to show, check your wheel nuts frequently!

3 on one wheel and 2 on another! :-S

luckily i think 2 of them have only snapped this morning minutes away from the garage as it looks very fresh steel (no brake dust or road grime compared to the other broken ones).

both the wheels at the back.

I had a problem similar to that, just not too the same extent.

Have you got alloy wheels on it by any chance?

The reason im asking is, if they are fitted without the plastic spacers that sit inside the bore, the wheel itself would have been riding on the wheel studs instead of on the centre bore. This would be putting unexpected stress onto the wheel studs.

Just a suggestion. Alot easier to take your wheels off and check than to take the hubs off to change the studs.

Good suggestion. When i fitted the wheels i definately put the plastic rings in. But it could be possible they have come off when the garage replaced the brakes and they didnt realise.

I'd just double check to make sure that they are there.

Its alot of work to change the wheel studs, especially on the back. Dont wanna be doing that if you dont need to!

The rings are there. Local garage has had a look and they blame the wheels. They've said that the nuts provided dont sit in the drilled holes properly and as the wheel is turning its pushing the nuts at very slight inward angle which is shreading the threads then eventually snapping the studs.

Stupid cheap ebay alloys :-(

this doesnt sound right to me, most common cause of wheel studs breaking is overtightening normaly done when an impact gun is used to tighten nuts instead of being torqued properly. you would need a lot of movement to shred the threads on stud and even then the stud would shred the wheel it being made out of alloy and being much softer than the stud, this wasnt the same garage that did your brakes by any chance is it.

funnily enough, yea it is.

But they didnt put the wheel nuts on, i did and i only did them by hand. I dont generally put them on too tight, just enough so that they dont move. The garage said that the remaining nuts were only on finger tight and that i should have tightened them up more.

Dont get me wrong i agree that it doesnt sound right, but i very much doubt the overtightening is the cause in this case as i know how little "force" i used.

EDIT: When they last snapped when the rear brakes were getting done i did think that it was the garages fault, but these were put on by me and have snapped off whilst driving.
