Hello folks.

Well fingers crossed if i go and pick my car up on friday that i will have the miles on it by saturday. Got something quite important thats needing doing and involves alot of miles combined with the miles of driving home possibly via stellaz place. This will work out in total either between 800-1000miles by late saturday afternoon.

So basically what im wondering is how to do the oil change, ive never done an oil change before, and with this being me putting the new oil in after the re-build bedding in miles i want to ensure i get it right and have it fully drained out.

Far as im aware just open a bleed point underneath the car and let it drain?

Where is this located, any pictures of this? And......i assume its the case of just open the plug and let it drain?

Whats the best oil to put in...10w40 castrol? And how much should i put in after draining the orginal bedding in oil?

Get the car up to temp, park on level ground, remove oil filler cap, go underneath, remove drain plug, remove oil filter, leave a while for the old oil to drain out, refit oil filter and sump plug (use a new washer) then refil with oil.

I will find a link for you that has pictures as well.

Have a good look at oil threads there are allot of varying opinions depending on use 10w/40 is ok though although i would not use magnatec

also what filter are you going for? , i'd stick with Oem , wix ,or K&N

I have no idea what filter to go for?

I seen a K&N one before on ebay, so possibly one like that.

All help and comments appreciated.

So i should take the car out a run first to make sure its warmed up?

i think hks do a good filter, if not just get a genuine nissan filter, they are the best filters to get, yes a run out would be good to get it up to temp

Ahhhhh, seems easy enough, my problem now is getting underneath as i dont think ill be able to jack the car up with the bodykit it has and i dont have ramps.lol.

Think ill need to buy some ramps.

I might just go for a nissan one as in one of those threads the guy says it comes with the copper crusher o ring.

i dont think it comes with it they just chuck you one lol, only a washer though and can be re used once or twice ;)

what oil ya going for then ?

I will probs go for 10x40 castrol synthetic and buy 4 litres of it.

Seems pritty straight forward i think, just get under the car at the passenger front wheel remove plug and let to drain, while removing the oil cap in the engine bay, then remove filter.

Get new filter fill with oil, lubricate seal, fit back on once drained fitdrain plug then top up with 3litres of oil.

Job done!!

So i think this will be my first step into engine work by myself.lol.

think i will just nail to sleeper posts together and drive up onto them, should allow enough clearance for me to get my head under.lol!!

Once i do this i will most certainly be changing the oil about every 3months

Yep that’s it and i wouldn’t use the Castrol especially when Mobil is so cheap at the min some kind of offer i think but 10w 40 is fine

good luck although it's not hard

The correct washer is a crush type and only used once, they are available from Nissan or any motor accessory shop. I personally opt for a good quality 10w50 oil, Morris oil to be precise and a Wix filter although if that was not available the a Nissan one.

I have never really looked at that style bodykit but if it means you can no longer jack the car up it does not seem like a good design.

Half hour labour at a local garage.:D Saves alot of hassle and they get rid of waste oil.Plus saves you burning your hand when unscrewing filter.Book it in ,take your own oil and filter=Sorted :dance::dance:

Anybody got any good filters lying around the dont need to sell along with th crusher washer?

So maybe 10w50 is the best oil for me to use then?

I know its only 20 at a local garage but i dont know if the like of a kwik fit will carry this out. I might take it there possibly and then just tell them where it is and stand and observe it being done.lol

taking my own oil and filter that is.

i enjoy me oil changes feels satisfying getting your hands in and doing it yourself get that dirty oil out and nice fresh stuff in!:) get your self a low entry jack works a treat used mines on some pretty low Z's.

dan.

I was in the motor trade for 11 years - and I still have never changed oil and filter! I've taken engines out and about every thing else but usually let other people do the filter change

As said, any garage can do it for you, doesnt matter what car it is because its still a simple job. Just get yourself a nissan oil filter (should be on the shelf at nissan) and some 10w40 and let them do it for you. If its something you've not done before then you'll have the piece of mind knowing that its been done properly.
