First of all, thanks to Nico for the tip!

Like many of you I've been experiencing strange movement in the rear

of the car when going over bumps or even the painted lines on the road.

The rear would swing a bit sideways totally unexpected.

The culprit in my case was the HICAS rods being worn out at their ball joint.

There was excessive play at the joint, so the rear wheel could turn a bit.

To check if you've got the same problem, jack up the rear end of the car and try

to turn the wheel by hand.

If you are able to move the wheel, i.e. feel a play in the linkage, this is the problem.

Cheers,

Maciej

Hi Maciej

My car had exactly this problem and I had the ball joint changed last week. Pleased to say it did cure this strange movement on the car. Unfortunatly the mechanic also found that just about every other ball joint and bush had gone aswell, sods law!! Still it has made a great improvement on driving my ZED.

Seez ya.

Its worth checking rear toe in also. Mine was at about 8mm. Have set it 0mm now the side hop effect is more or less gone. Funny thing was it seemed to only happen with bumps taken by the left rear. It really felt like bump steer. My Hicas arms have both been changed and also the shocks. It was really bad with duff shocks.
