Have still been hanging around here post crash and have a couple of things you guys might be able to help me with.

The assessor called and offered me £3k (car was £4k in February) after a lengthy discussion and all the info I had sent to the insurance company NOT being forwarded to him he concluded that I was probably right and should get more but he didn't have the authority to sanction a £1k increase and someone else will call me................

I had full no claims and my daily driver ('98 BMW 528is touring) is insured with Admiral. The Z was a 2nd car insured with Chaucer-do I need to call Admiral to tell them about the crash or wait til my renewal comes through?

Thinking of getting rid of the BMW and getting a more sporty estate (possibly an ST220 Mondeo) when I insure it do I now have zero no claims?

Finally what happens to my Z, I don't want it back but before the accident it was mint. It suffered front drivers side impact so 3 wheels are perfect, 99 spec rear lights, new back window, leather interior, clear side repeaters etc etc etc and thought it would be good if it was useful to someone on here to let you know where it went but will they tell me?

Cheers for your help as always

You should first try to buy it back, won't cost much.

You could then sell the bits yourself and get good money back for such things as the 99 spec rears etc.

youd prob get it back for a few hundred quid, stick it straight on here for a small profit, someone will have it

any pics of it post crash, where abouts are you

Just heading out but I'm in West London, I 'll post a pic later on. If I buy it back does that mean they don't pay out?

Sorry if any of these are stupid questions but I have never made a claim before

Too late for bobbyfame now but a message for all, if you find yourself in the unfortunate position of your car been wreaked ALWAYS have it recovered to home never let it go to a holding yard or similar, often the storage cost can tip the insurance figure over the edge and then write off, I for one would NEVER loose sight of the car, what ever happens after this at least you have retained ownership.

Jeff TT

they usually take the price of the car off ya payout, so if you were offered 4k for the car and they said you could buy it back for lets say £500, you would get the car and a payout of £3500

Live and learn-not in the habit of crashing or dealing wth the aftermath but thanks Jeff I shall bear that in mind for the future (but hopefully just to pass on!)

Any ideas about this?

AFAIK, you don't have to inform the insurance of the other car (BMW). It is a separate policy and the no-claims are tied to that.

Tell them when your up for renewal, you will retain the no-claims, but they might take the accident into account.

Obviously you will loose any bonus on the Zed's policy.

When you said you have full no claims, wont they be protected then?

That clears that up, thanks very much mate

Don't think it's protected, 'full' as in more than 9 years-thanks for your help

Yeah, i kinda thought full was around the 9+ years mark. But, correct me if im wrong, dont most people protect their no claims once they get past 4 years without a prang?

Full no claims is generally 7 or more years. Protecting them is a optional extra, but costs.

I haven't protected mine as yet. Personally, protected or not, I think they take any accident you have and calculate the risk into the renewal premium. They never lose!

IMO!

Doesnt look all bad to me to be honest, did you have a look at the engine to see if there was any damage to that??

Like you have said will be a new Fender, Alloy and Most of the Front Right Suspension and you have it fixed!

Your Front Bumper can be saved, just get a new Front Wing, (wheel doesnt look bent from pics) and look at the Suspension under that wheel, Tension arms will be bents maybe springs and few other bits! Dont think its all doom and gloom! Get Parts Sourcing id say!!

Oh and you will need a new bonnet :) All in all maybe £500 or repairs depending on whether you can do it yourself or a mate to do it will make it cheaper

Ok, thanks.

The pedals were all out of kilter inside and the drivers door wouldn't shut properly. The front left wheel was facing forward the front right at about 20 degrees. When they call I'll find out where it is and see how much recovering it to Zed World will be.

bit of filler on the wing and you would never know u had a bump :D lol :slap:

as said above its not that bad, would be worth fixing, cannot let them scrap a car over a little bit of damage.......

Hi mate when 300zxy had he's crash he's car looked a lot like your's but he's bumper and headlight and sidelight was damaged also . the insurance was going to write it off so we got all the parts from ebay the expensive part was the paint and its as good as new now.

Ok, thanks.

In that case the bulkhead is kinked. probably chassis rails ,engine cross member which carries the rack etc.

Will need to be jigged etc

Not a simple DIY repair.

If the first offer was £3000 and you value it at £4000 then there is scope to meet in the middle somewhere.

dont waste time tho as Jeffs advice is very relevant re where it is now. they will be charging maybe £10 a day to store and that is coming off your payout.

And you DO NEED to inform your other insurance company. Cos this accident is "a material change" in your circumstances/status as a driver/insurer .

Read the small print... always.
