Ok I've searched the threads and have found a few different opinions but has anyone got the definitive answer on this.

I have a set of clocks that read up to 180 and it is listed in MPH only (no KMH readings at all)

They seem to be reading in KMH ie. when doing 70 MPH they read 112 on the clocks.

I think I need a converter. Is this correct? if so where is the best place to get one and how are they fitted.

Cheers

If you have a jap import you will need a convertor, get them from ebay, or one of our traders on the forum. There is a wiring diagram in the faq section, but you will get instructions with it anyway.

You will have to tap into the yellow/green wire for the signal, the other 3 to the back of the screws on the speedo clock, very easy job.

Can affect the power steering.

The best way is to get a set of Uk clocks and get your ecu rechipped, this will also get rid of the rev limiter and speed restriction.

The clocks I have show MPH. Can these still be Jap clocks, or have they been changed without the ecu being rechipped.

How do I go about getting it rechipped

uk clocks show both mph and kmph.

if its a single scale going up to 180 somethings per hour it is most likely jap clocks.

where does it say mph? when converters are used its common to fit a small black sticker in the centre of the dial over the kmph or use a black pen to colour in the K

Doh :headvswal yeah they have a sticker over them. So I have nothing more than full Jap Spec with a sticker.

best way forward anyone?

Uk clocks have mph reading on the outside of the dial and kph inside. If yours is only reading mph, they could be jap clocks with a mph face. Which is pointless without other mods to get to read in mph.

The convertor box does change the kph to mph, it tricks the ecu into thinking you are going slower than actual speed, but does affect the power steering at below 20mph, which is when you need it most.

You need to have the ecu socketed so it can accept a new chip. If you place a post in the wanted section and explain why, someone may have one already done, or John Dixon on the forum or AndyP do rechips. Jeff at zedworld may have some in stock.#HTH

cheers

Think I'll go for John or AndyP to do the rechip any idea where they are located?

Uk clocks and a rechip Ecu is the best way forward

Just need UK clocks, job done

True but rechipping will get rid of the rev limiter too

This may help you, again it may not, but.......

my 300 import had a 300KPH facia, so i changed it to a 185KPH facia and adjusted the tensiometers to read correctly (well, am almost there, a little twicky needed). Got the white facia from e-bay in AUS.
