lol ;)

As I've just bought myself a new 'True 1080P Upscalling' DVD player, I thought I'd give it a go with a few good films.

Was trying Star Wars III earlier.... awesome

Now just been trying my fave film..... Bladerunner........ WOW  Absolutely brilliant, especially as it's The Final Cut version with the enhanced 5.1 surround sound and re-mastered. Really works well with the upscalling as well, nice and sharp picture wise

I bought myself the LG HT554TH, all in one unit which just happens to match my LG flat panel  and only 245 from ASDA

It's getting very close to 30 years now Nick..... bloody hell, don't time fly!!

I look forward to you showing me what I've been missing out on  ;)

Hehe its a revelation! You won't believe how sharp a film that age can look.

So annoyed xbox haven't released the bluray drive yet so i can get ghostbusters!

Blu Ray. The best quality I have ever seen. It up scales DVD too. Bloody brill it is. :D

I saw the limited edition of Blade runner boxed in a metal box with a 3D film cell in Tescos for £32 a few weeks ago. Thought it was a bit dear. Then last week it was £18 so I bought it. Well pleased. Although its got 5 discs and they are basically different dated versions of the one film its still a nice thing to have. I do like a box set:D

I wasn't aware Blu Ray upscalled.... ar well ;) I may have an xBox eventually anyway....... Q- Does the xBox have an optical out?

The 5 disc box set is the one I've got, didn't cost me a penny.... it was a present :D yeah it's a nice little collectors item

I got the hd-dvd drive and 5 hd dvds for £90 and then picked up the matrix trilogy in hd for £14 and all the harry potter's for £4 a piece and a load of others for £5-6 each

You can pick up blu ray films from 7 quid.....my collections already quite big....and they upscale dvd as said above.......you can get blu ray players from 150 quid...defo worth it..picture quality is stunning...

If you have a HD TV this will upscale a DVD and SD tv by default, BlueRay 1080p has over 4x the amount of pixels a DVD has, this simply cannot be recreated by upscaling, I hate fancy marketing blurb that gets people to buy stuff like this.

I bought a LG 5.1 home cinema system, with the tall speaker sub and a few others and it came with the LG 1080p dvd all singing and dancing player.

got mines from curry on a reduced to clear for 119.97:D:D!! Its fantastic!! And look sgreat with my LG 42"plasma:D!

Sorry bud but I don't see where you're coming from here  To the best of my knowledge it will not do this.

I agree entierly with what you are saying here, but up-scaling DOES do a fair job, and it does work, OK no where near as good as true HD, but after watching HD TV as well (FreeSat HD, BBC & ITV) I'm not yet impressed enough to even think it's worth all the extra expense.

I'm sure people can tell the difference, but does it really matter? I'm sure some will say that it's as near to being at a good quality cinema..... so you've got people talking, walking in front of you and crinkling sweet wrappers? ;)

Well a HD tv will have either 1920 or 1366 or 1024 pixels across, a DVD is 720 pixels across if your tv didnt scale the picture it would just be a small box in the middle, how well it does this depends on the TV but you can usually play around with the sharpness and processing to improve picture.

Now addmitedly a dedicated DVD upscaler will possess better dedicated hardware to do this, but I still think they are very overated and marketed so, I guess i'm spoiled by the PS3's blueray drive.

But like you say if its an improvement over what you had its got to be a good thing and certainly cheaper than a full HD BD setup

watched bladerunner last night on blu-ray and the picture was brilliant Sssooo sharp

yeah fair enough if youve got hundreds of DVDs and want to experience them in better quality without replacing each one with BluRay (which may or may not be available for every DVD youve got) - but my goodness the picture is gorgeous! lol. may as well get a ps3 as, for a few quid more than a standard BluRay player, you get a next-gen console as well ;)
