Hi, ive not long had my zx and ive already sorted a few problems when i had it ie, coil pack and prop vibration, but what im stuck at is the electrics, side lights, dipped beam, heaters, wipers, horn, crusie control, clock, dash lights and speedo, none of these work?? ive changed all the relays and the whole fuse box located under the drivers footwell but still the same?!? (annoyingly) the stuff i dont care about like electric seats and interior light works??!? Please if anybody has had a similar problem or know what on earth this is let me know, thanks for any help

Check the fuses / relays / fusable links under the hood. One set by the brake booster and the other set in the relay box

1) Make sure you have a good electrical meter (Halfords, Maplin etc sell them)

2) Using this link >> http://www.300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=el&dir=&config=&refresh=&slide=1&cycle=off&scale=0&design=default&total=133 start your way in tracing back from at least one item that doesn't work (Clock, Horn etc) and run through the wiring. I would point you to the exact page, but there are numorous items that you have listed that are not on the same page... But here's the page for the Clock and Horn >> http://www.300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=el&dir=&config=&refresh=&direction=forward&scale=0&cycle=off&slide=89&design=default&total=133

3) Hopefully you may find a common fault between them all.

Check the accessory relay under the bonnet... if it's not that, and you've got a turbo timer installed, check the ignition harness - mine had a loose connection which caused a similar (if not identical) problem...

I'd like to give a huge thanks to Lee Dent for fixing my zx as it was all human error electrical faults that was causing half of the stuff from working, but this guy really knows what he's doing with electrics and i would recomend him to anyone. Again thanks a million mate!

MOTED my car now with no problems at all!! not bad for a 20 year old car!

Can you tell us what the faults were has it might come in handy for others at sometime?

Always good to know the solution to the problem.

Hi, yes well, Basically the lights, horn, heater, wipers and dash lights did not work. the previous owner told me that the owner before him had the stereo nicked out of it and that possibly some wires had been muddled up there. the wires were a mess where the stereo hole was but that was due to a aftermarket alarm and poor stereo wiring, so lee tidied all that up but all faults where still there, he then looked under the steering coloum, he compared the ignition wiring from my zed to his and found that it was all wired up wrong, also the horn cable was broken and alot of the lighting cables where melted (probably due to being in the wrong place), so he re-wired the nackerd cables, put them in the correct places, i then had a horn, wipers, dash lights and heaters! put still no lights, well i did have some but they only worked when the fog lamps where on! so he then checked behind the light unit on the dash and there was a few dogy looking cables there (broken or almost broken) he repaird them and then all the lights worked! brilliant! So what i rekon has happend is that the car got broken into, they tryed to nick it by hot-wiring it by pulling cables out of the ignition barrel, failed that so just took the stereo, then the owner probably bodged back the wires and never got everything working properly! So it all seems to be down to human error, there were no faults due to the car being old ect.. But the thing is a havent a clue when it comes to electrics, Lee knew exactly where to look and how to check things properly, so im really pleased now as you can imagine!

Crikey! Not your average repair then really.

Glad it all worked out for you, Lee is obviously rather handy with auto electrics!

Cheers:)
