okay here goes, the door light does not go out when the doors shut, which means when the alarm is armed it turns off as it senses an open door. the light worked before the alarm was fitted ie it went out when the door was shut, but now, it seems to have a short in the alarm connections. (i have checked all the switches)

So i need someone to check out the alarm connections and also tell me, if poss, the features the alarm has.

I very much doubt that the problem is with the alarm, but rather the car as the alarm just sitts on top and monitors the condition on the door contact eg earth to trigger and activate courtesy light. Try tracing wires back to were alarm is connected then disconnect to see if problem goes. If yes try a diode in line with the alarm connection. If this doesnt work then the alarm has propably been connected to the wrong wire on the int light circuit. I am an approved Clifford installer.

Sorry if this is stating the obvious but the interior light switch has 3 positions - I think on my UK car. One is on all the time one is off all the time and one is on and off with the door operating it.

Has it maybe been put in the "on" all the time position?

Thanks Willie, but been there done that. Its really frustrating (the position is centre for door switch use) sometimes it works so i arm the car, then in the middle of the night (normally) whatever is happening , happens and the light comes on, clifford alarm thinks, hello, someones broke in and opened a door, i'd better make a racket, and boy what a racket!!

I've spoken to a clifford dealer who charges £150 for a call out.

I'm trying to solve it myself first..if only i could find the alarm box....

Depending on the model these alarms can be in several parts. My Clifford is part in the boot next to the spare wheel and another part behind the side trim panel on the back seat passenger side.

Have you gone into the settings for it via the menu access? I remember mine had some dumb settings like lock the doors after 3 minutes with the keys left in the ignition. Really useful for locking yourself out. Also the sensitivity of the perimiter monitoring was too high with anybody walking past setting it off.

I have the original fitters notes but they were printed on fax paper and are almost white now! Really helpful I know.

It doesnt help find problems when they use black wiring with no colour codes! Other places they wired into are under the dashboard rhs. The immobiliser works on both the ignition and fule pump circuits I think.

Maybe just leave it perminantly in valet mode until you figure it out. Ditch the interior light part and you would still have the ultrasonic motion sensing part that still detects entry. Mine detects a hand reaching in from open T tops.

You can find the manuals on the Clifford website.

Hi Willie, thanks for that, gives me some places to look. You mention menu access.. how do you do that,is it the button pushing bit or am i missing something. do you have detectors in the cabin to detect the movement, 'cos i dont, maybe it wasn't bought with that option.

If i can figure out how to switch off the interior light part i would,

rang our local clifford dealer and he wants £9.99 for a wiring diagram. couldn't find anything on the site, its now Gap Security, they're the ones charging £150...

Ah Well, keep trying...

I always put alarm ecu next to or under the car ecu under the wooden panel in passenger side floor pan

They are cowboys mate and would stay well clear

I can give you a copy of the installation manual for nothing but i cant see what use it would be to you to be honest

You didn't say before, when you mentioned the menu system, were you referring to doing different button pushes or is there another way to access it?

Sorry I remembered that it was quite complicated and you needed the manual in front of you. Mine used combinations of presses of the momentary side and latched side of the valet flip switch if that is what its called. You had to get it into valet mode then mess around with the settings and listen for beeps. Check the pdf file manual for the system you have fitted. Mine is ancient being the concept 50X I think.

Mine also now has dead rechargeable batterys so has stopped chirping but still flashes the indicators on arm and disarm. Must fix that too!
