Had my AVC-R fitted today by Bob (cheers mate!).

Wondering what you 5-speed owners have used for your settings.

I have preset 1.05 mm/Hg, with 68% duty, I have set gear based boost for 3rd gear onwards. 1st & 2nd gear is being taken care of with rpm-based boost (Ne1 @ 2500, Ne2 @ 3000) I have increased the duty on these two rpm bands to 70% to give some extra oomph at low revs in an attempt to reduce spool-up time.

Is this ok, or am I totally way-off with my understanding of how this thing works?

Funny, you should mention tuning the AVC-R, I spent my whole journey back from Dover getting the gear based settings nearer to what I want.

I gave up trying to work out the self learn mode and attempted to set mine up manually.

What ever you do, listen for detination, then listen for detination... be careful. It's tempting to pump up the power. I wouldn't reccomend, nor would anyone else... exceeding 1bar. For saftey, I was running 1bar until 4500revs, then down to 0.95. Why, cuz in 3rd,4th and 5th you can generate a load of heat back in the cylinders, thus detination.

Unless you've set-up your gears in the etc menu your gear based settings will be out as it will calculate the wrong gear. Drive up the road with the gear settings, take note of the NS value in each gear and set each gear to the according NS amount. Until my latestet set of mods I had the gear based duty at 0% and feed-back turned off "X" as I didn't really overshoot the target boost. Now with my cats removed it's really missing the mark, so I've ended up turning down my duty a couple of % then setting gear based duty...

5th -2% duty

4th -3% duty

3rd -4% duty

My main duty was set to 66% until I removed the cat, now at 63 or 64%.

The optimum feed back settings for 5th, 3rd and 4th seam to be between 2 and 3 (for me with my turbos spooling up more quickly). Set to 1 and it still overshoots, as high as 9 and the boost is held back to much for to long and goes and overshoots anyhow when the duty returns to normal.

My boost (almost!) never exceeds 1bar when the revs go above 4500revs as I'm fairly sure the injectors would probably max out.

Confused, you will be. I missed my M20 junction setting this thing up, and yes, don't try to drive and set the thing at the same time. It's not the safest thing in the world.

I've still got a few things to work out on the AVC-R, but I'm nearly there. Reading the manual really doesn't help.

BTW - when setting it up I find the monitor mode showing Revs, then boost the best view, as you can also press up arrow and see the maximum values, then keep resetting with right arrow.

The graph is actually usuful for setting the feedback speed as you can see how smooth the boost is rising.

Self learn mode...

How annoying... my AVC-R suddenly decided it had learnt what the duty was for my car and imposed silly duties in addition to my gear based duty. After clearing these really crazy settings I found out I could set up the duty learn simply by flooring it in 4th for about 3 seconds at about... well - lets say over 69mph, shall we. I guess at that speed the air flow, spool and duty had become more stable...

BTW - After wondering why my 1st gear never spooled much over 1bar I discovered turning the feed back from X (off) to 2 allowed it to reach the desired setting, in combination with some -4 gear based duty...

interesting.
