Hey guys, i'm a member of midlandshonda.co.uk and own a 1998 2.0 prelude. I love hondas but love all jap cars! I've recently changed jobs and decided to buy a 'toy' for the weekend towards the end of the year, i will keep the prelude as my work car. After making a short list of an r34 skyline gtt, a twin turbo supra, or a twin turbo 300 zx, i've decided to go for a zx :xxx: i've had a look on the buying guides on here and there mega helpful, but are there any points to look out for? Also, are there different wheelbase's depending on models?

Any help appreciated guys!

Well as for what to look out for, if it's not on the buying Guide, then I'd say nothing more than any other car you are looking to buy!

Model wise, well there are a few different types that are available....

UK Models;

Twin Turbo 2+2 (LWB) Targa top

JDM Models;

Twin Turbo 2+2 Targa Top

Twin Turbo 2+0 Targa Top

Twin Turbo 2+0 Slick Top

Non-Turbo 2+2 Targa Top

Non-Turbo 2+0 Targa Top

Non-Turbo 2+0 Slick Top

Non-Turbo 2+0 Convertible

I think that about covers the models.

The Uk models have wider rear wheels, are considered cheaper to insure, but also rust more than the JDM models. You also have front fogs on JDM's and rear fogs on UK.

From a distance you can tell whether a zed is a 2+2 or a 2+0 by the position of the fuel filler flap, it is behind the rear near side wheel arch on a 2+2, and infront of the arch on a 2+0 (you can also tell by the shape of the rear quarter glass, but you really need to know your Zeds for that ;) ) I'll post a coupl of links up in a min for help as well

Welcome, a bit more info for you on the TT>

280-300 bhp with 280 Ib/ft Torque, 0-60 is 5.5 secs,Top speed is (approx) 175 mph - with limiter removed. With Induction kit, Performance Exhaust, Chip, 1bar boost your looking at 350-380hp

All UK models are LWB Twin Turbo.

Imports were available as TT/LWB or SWB.

but also rust more than the JDM models.

Not entirely accurate.

Due to the UK road conditions - rain and salt - you may see more rust on a UK car than a recently imported model. However it all depends on how the individual car has been used and stored rather than Jap or UK.

Check any car carefully.

Welcome!

Most people go for jap LWB or SWB TT's as they have less miles on them and less rust (in some cases)

UK's normally have alot of miles or have a few rust issues

mine will be up for sale in the next few weeks, LWB TT around 390bhp looking for around £6000

cheers for the help guys, i've started my search :)

a mate had a black jdm tt, i once went in it, my god it was quick :hyper:

so i want one!

tt/ manual is the most sought after, depend's what you want as regard's swb/lwb , i suppose some would consider the lwb more common as they where initialy avail in the uk also , where as the swb was not

hth :)

are there any differences in power between uk and jdm tt models? I know jdm models generally put out more than uk spec, is it the case with zeds?

J spec Z's are restricted to around 112mph from memory if the limiter is still in place , uk spec's are not ,

easy sorted though with a small mod for the j-spec

all depends on how much your looking to spend on one.

i notice your from derby.

do you ever get down to the MFN cruise o sundays.?

i've never been to be honest mate, the very few people i know that have been said its chaved up with saxo's and pug's lol. I know there are good rides there tho.

Both JDM and UK TT's put out the same power, the only difference is between Auto's and manuals. The manuals have about 20bhp more but the autos turbo's spool quicker
