After 10 long, sometimes great, sometimes frustrating years of Z ownership, it's time to say goodbye

A coolant leak has prompted me to take my car to PhilZ for repair, plus an MOT. I usually get the MOT done a day or two before it's due, however, seeing as the car was going to the garage I may as well have it done a bit early.

It turns out that the coolant leak is just a split hose, but the problem is it has failed the MOT quite badly. Apparently, the sills are rusted rught through; I was completely unaware of any of this, as the body kit is hiding the corrosion from view.

I now have 3 weeks to get rid of the car - I'm frantically looking for good scrappage deals; but what I want and what I can afford are some distance apart. Hopefully, I can land something 'semi-respectable'; but I'm sure it won't bring me the driving pleasure and the fun and cameraderie I have received from being a member of 300zx.co.uk.

On the subject of this forum, I'd like to say thanks for all the help and friendship I have received over the years, from the following people:-

Craig

Bob

MAC1

Johnny

SRRAE

Duffman

PaulG

Topless

AdamR

Jez

Tooley

PhilZ

Trey

300Z (Warren)

Kirbz

Hairsy

Bee Gee Vinz

Apologies if I've missed anyone off this list, there are so many people over the years, who have added much to my ownership of my Z.

.................

Cheers,

Dave W

Hi Dave, sorry to see your leaving Z ownership. Yours was one of the cars that gave me inspiration to mod mine all them years ago back in the day at Mascrat Manor. Enjoy the Audi.

Barry

sorry to see you go matey, and hope you enjoy the audi maybe a little suggestion if your scrapping the zed then you can sell most of the aftermarket bits bumper side skirts ect and just replace with an old bumper, that way you will get some ££££££ back

There you go stella............another project car for you mate? far to nice to be srap!

if your going to scrap it dave can you not find someone else with a red zed and swap some bits over and get them to cross your palm with silver also replace the rims with oem rims and flog the blitz ones etc

Mike

if you are scrapping that to an audi garage, can i haev the number of that garage?lol. Get it from them for peanuts probably so i would go for it.aha!

How does this scrappage business work? Surely the cars trading in should be scrapped as it gets old cars off the road completely

This is correct, cars traded in under the scheme MUST be scrapped and cannot be traded on. I've heard one or two dealers have not done this, have been busted and heavily fined!

Gutted for ya pal, and gutted for me as well, I've got a redzed, and I'm also skinto for the next month at least, sorting the turbos out... bummer :(

whats the offset on your wheels m8ty or has the car gone now

Hi mate - the car goes on Monday afternoon. I can't remember the offset for the wheels, but they are the correct offset for the Z - Johnny will know what that is! :o

The car is going early next week. If anyone wants a cash plus swap for std wheels deal, on a set of Blitz 03's in need of a refurb, you can email me on the address at the start of this thread (thanks moderators).

Dave

Dave,

really good to hear from you, but sad to finally see the day you sell your Zed.

You were one of the first people i ever met regarding Zeds, and always appreciated the long treks you made to visit for meets.

i would sell as many parts from the car as possible before handing it over.

although it should never be allowed back on the road because it has to be registered as scrapped, the scrap dealer will be able to dismantle the vehicle and sell the spares.

you should make that profit yourself.

the car does not even need to be running, so you dont need to replace any parts, just take all the bits off that you want.

as long as it was MOT'd then they have to take the vehicle in any state.

all the best

Great to hear from you Craig - hope you and the family are keeping well! Lisa and I always enjoyed coming to the meets to see you all.

I'm afraid nobody showed interest in any parts; there were a couple of enquiries about the entire car though. I took the car to the Audi dealer this afternoon, it wouldn't start at first - I don't think it wanted to go away! the Audi dealer who told me I would receive a "Notification of Destruction" through the post. It sounds a bit harsh!

And so ends my Z journey. What have I learned?

These cars can be fantastic one day, then break your heart (and bank account!) the next. From having huge performance, to being a non-starter. I will not miss the huge fuel, tyre and garage bills.

What I will miss is the sheer thrill of 350+ bhp, driving something which constantly has people gawping in wonder at what they have just seen. Having the targas off in the summer and cruising along.

But most of all, I will miss this place and the people who I have met over the years. The friendship and camaraderie I have experienced will never be forgotten. Sitting up 'til 3am chatting with Craig and Bob on ICQ (I'll never forget that 'phone bill - I was still on dial-up!), the party in the Zedworld tent at Billing 2002 with Mark Topless, Duffer and PaulG in the pissing down rain. MAC1 chucking (was it Timmy Turbo?) in the lake at Billing

Thanks to you all, for your friendship and help over the years

Dave.

p.s. Does anyone know a good Audi form?

i use http://www.audi-sport.net there is also another which the website i just posted have links to

sad end to a car, you dont have to have a zed to part of this forum, well i hope not as i dont have one and im a mod lol
