History on imports

I've tested a couple of Jap imports in the last week or two (got nicked for speeding in one of 'em, but thats another story biggrin.gif) and both the dealers were saying that the cars didn't come with the logbook and that it was rare to find a car that did. This seems kinda stoopid to me cos every other car I have ever bought in the UK came with some proof of history and therefore proof of mileage etc. Does anyone know what the score is with this? I am paranoid that they are all thrashed and neglected and have had 1/2 the mileage taken off 'em!

Do you mean the origional Japanese logbook? cos if you do then you wont get it. The car has to be de-registered before it leaves Japan. If you mean the UK logbook then yes it should have one so be cautious of any dealer who says he hasnt got it. You can generally tell by the condition of the car as to how well it has been looked after and when I was in Japan a couple of years ago there is loads of mint low mileage cars selling really cheap so if you see something that seems right then go for it

Hi Pacman,

Forgot to mention in my earlier post. Friends Automart will give you the original Jap log book and an English translation. Thats what I got from them on my Zed.

PS. I do not work for them, are associated with them or anything like that I just think there a good dealer, cos believe me there are some bad ones out there.

Cheers,

Dean.
