car insurance - Charging to change an address?

Is this right? Changing insurers anyway next month, but notified my current insurer that I'd moved house. They now tell me I have to pay an admin charge of £15. Nothing to do with the premium. Is this right?

Never encountered it before. Seems like daylight robbery.

Yup very standard. You think 500 people a day call to make a change of some form or another thats a hell of a lot of admin work and time taken up and needs to be paid for.

lol they do it over the phone tho, i dont see what admin is involved everything is on computer nowadays, it doesnt cost 15 quid to punch a few keys.

If 500 people call a day to make changes the insurance company are quids in and loving it.

would any of you's work for free, i know i wouldnt, if they gave you back money or knocked money off ya monthly payment's due to the change of addy, im sure you's wouldnt complain then

The point is that you'd expect these admin tasks to be included as part of the premium.

BT don't charge when you move house, banks don't charge when you move house, nobody else does.

Do you know what admin is? lol

Yes they are, the first time you give them the info that they enter a part of the premium you pay go towards the person who does the admin for your account.

Look at it this way, lets say you pay a builder to build a wall and put a plaque on the wall, you then call him back three months later and ask him to change the plaque over, its only a ten min job to unscrew and put the new one in but you wouldn't expect him to do it for free or get the hump when he asks paying for it? No course not, so why when your causing extra unpaid for work to insurance companies why do you expect it to be free?

I changed my regi plate dont long ago and was charged £14.50.

Think its terrible, why dont you just wait the now and insure your car when you move, or just give them the new address. If its the old company just fob them off and dont pay them, just say you havent moved.
