We seem to be having a lot of new accounts set up for spammers! One still on that has 'Banned' as description, but still on-line!

No Mods or commitee available to deal with it at the moment though

You can easily tell them, they always put Location as '1', and their Area as South Central!!!!! And the name normally is a combination of indescriminate letters and numbers

And another one trundles in ....... lue9471435

Is there a way to send new registered account holders an activation e-mail that they have to reply to to acivate their account before they are allowed in? I seem to have to do this to loads of other sites before I can even look on there boards etc

Just do what Zclub do and ask a question on the registration page. They have never had a spammer since they did this :duffer:

All the Moderators are normally very good at spotting these spambots rather quickly. and if they do get one posting, we have a one touch BAN system, which bans them and removes all their posts with one touch of a button. ;)

I'm sure the software can be tweaked in the registration section to stop it alltogether though, can't it?

Only turb0z can answer that mate, tbh I think we looked at that before, and it couldn't be done.

Firstly they tend to be a random jumble of letters and numbers (although that's not always true), also if you go into their Profile you'll notice that their Location is always '1' and their Area is 'South East' or 'South Central'. There wont be any other details like Date Of Birth or any interests, just absolute basic info only.

As for the other two you mention above, they'll show up as 'on-line' but it's only showing that a registered name was trying to access the site sometime in the last 15 mins or so, and doesn't mean that they are on-line and in the forum!
