My mechanic has taken it for a spin, he says he can here a slight rattle from passenger side tub whilst driving, could this be? The boost still goes to 1 bar fine and still pulls ok, I cant hear anything, I had a smoke leak test done and he says he can see smoke comming from both tubs but passenger one side more than the other, Its booked in to have the manifold/turbo gaskets replaced, hes going to have a better look then, the turbos I have are jwt530bb tubs which have only done a few thousand miles, I hope my tubs are ok.

Hope its not tubs, to be honest it does not sound like it is,the JWT Sport 530 tubs you have are very strong, never read or known of them giving out,if fact they attained one of the best reliability records in the USA,same as the Sport 500 in thier day.(one Z i had ran 500s and took some real abuse and still running)You may of had a small amount of oil starvation that has caused premature wear but doubt it,could be gasket, that can cause rattle/blow-bye(has same on a T5)and yes it will still perform ok.(ie boost)

Both gaskets have gone between manifold and turbo, hope this is the cause.

Sounds like the were not fitted to correct torque(my T5 tub was fitted 4 months before i got it!)

Are the PCV Valves newish or old,if old change them.

Does it smoke more when hot,or from cold.

I think your miss understanding the first thread, the car is not smoking at all, my mechanic used a smoke boost/vac leak detector and found that their was smoke seeping through the tubs somewhere.

I see, well i would put money on tubs being ok,is the engine coming out to do them, did engine come out when the 530s were fitted.

The "slight rattle" could be a small amount of detonation. If your injectors or maf are maxing out at 1 bar it could be this.

Worth a thought.

Engine is staying in to do the gaskets and yes the engine came out to fit the turbos, I hope its just the gaskets that are making the noise, I cant hear a thing, never have done.

I doubt it would be my injectors, I have nismo 555's and engine has been forged although my airfilter is damp, could this cause det?

Have been reading your old posts and i see you have had a few niggles with it since rebuild, are you still running the JWT Chip, and importantly has it ever been on rollers since rebuild to check it all out.

Im still running the JWT chip, it was booked in to be rolling roaded on the 25th this month but have prosponed it to next month now so that it gives me time to get the gaskets done. A few months ago I ran it at 17psi, floored it and it was a complete animal, no noises or rattles and pulled hard, surly if it was the turbo, something would of given out.

Ok may i suggest that when you get car done you refrain from WOT until you have been on rollers, better safe than sorry.I had issues with a previous Z,long story, but basicaly me and previuos owner had an engine let go,mine was crack in piston(No6) could not realy figure why, was running 555s,Sport 500 Tubs,Large Intercoolers,HKS Boost, etc. When i got the next motor in i went straight to Thor Racing, turns out that there was det but you would never of heard it at WOT as the sound frequency was inaudible, but showed up on the power runs, one of the reasons was the JWT,it was very very lean at top end,but with this chip i was always under the impresion they ran a bit richer to help combat det etc,so i decided to ditch it and get JD to do me a mild map,at the same time i got Thor to fit a FSE Power Boost Vavle(had issues on more than one occasion with the stock fuel pressure reg)and a blank thread plug fitted for Wideband 02 on down pipe on right hand engine side as like i said No6 runs hotter than the rest so not only can you attach sensor you can monitor whats happening better when setting up,so back to Thor, after a few runs and a bit of tweaking it went from 300 at the wheels to 361,torque went from 262 to 369:D,all on stock internals.Never had a running problem after that,Z still going strong by all accounts. If i alterd anything on car after that like intake or running more boost i went back to Thor, reason being at least i knew all was ok.
