Good evening all,

I'm not to impressed with this rear steering, jumps around to much.

I have a lock-out bar kit, any idea what they are like to fit?

Cheers.

I'd like to know this too. If got a z1 lock out kit but no instructions :(. Can work out how the mechanical bits go but I'm not sure about the fluid parts.

If your rear steering is jumping around too much, mate, it's probably because you've got some worn ball-joints back there. Fitting the hicas lock bar won't solve this until you've replaced any worn joints as well :)

Yep, if the rear feels like its moving about then you its either the hicas arm joints and/or worn rear shocks.

I looked at the ball joints when I got the car, they looked ok but I didn't poke and prod. It feels like it is trying to steer. "The man" said to disconect and short the plug, that should lock it, it calmed it down a bit.

Can the ball joints be changed at the home of a numpty, or dose it need a touch of cleaver?

Cheers

I got a double ended banjo to connect the pipes together in my kit.

sorry to jump in but while on the topic of hicas, can someone explain what it is/does?

HICAS Explanation from wikpedia>

Earlier HICAS versions used hydraulics to steer the rear wheels. The hydraulic system was powered by the power steering pump and used speed sensors to determine how much and in which direction to steer the rear wheels. Later versions, called Super HICAS, moved to an electric actuator for the rear steering rack, making the system much lighter. The Super HICAS system also used its own computer to control the system instead of speed sensors. HICAS and Super HICAS rear wheel steering is limited to about 1 degree in either direction.

HICAS was introduced on the 1986 Skyline GTS coupes (GTS, GTS-R, and GTS-X). The system was later adapted to work on many models in the Nissan range

not bad considering it was from wikpedia lol

It steers opposite to the front wheels up till about 30mph then in the same direction as the fronts at higher speeds. It means the whole car moves to the side at speed rather than turning as such. There are differences in UK and import versions and the later one is electric.

ignore above i have sorta worked it out now, so at slow speeds gives a bit of a better turning circle but it high speeds keeps the wheels where they are safer and that is in the same direction as the front wheels . :D

Not quite, its adapts what it does depending on Speed and Steering angle. The speed at which it is active differs for UK and Import but is inactive at low speeds.

It is a mid and high speed handling aid.

Guys, thanks for all the feed-back.

After I do the rear shocks and joint, the back end will no longer try to cross the road when I touch the white line, right?

So, keep it or lock it, what would you do?

Depends on how hard you hit the throttle ;)
