Engine starts......engine stops......Help!

I have had the car off the road since Febuary. Just started her up and the engine ran for about 20 seconds and then slowly stopped. Trying to restart, sounds like it wants to start but won't. Since it's been off the road i have changed the plugs, cam belt, water pump, radiator, oil, fuel filter, oil filter, removed hicas and A/C and fited underdrive pulleys and new belts.

My gut feeling is that it is not electrical, and that there is no fuel getting to the engine. Does any one know how to check the pump is working? I disconnected the filter and there was a bit of fuel in it. Turning the engine over with the fillter off, no fuel pumped out - should it?:(

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you put the ignition on? - You should.

If not check the fuse first and take it from there.

The fuel pump does not make any noises. There is voltage getting to the pump plug which is strange.

Has the car been started during its time off the road, as after killing my engine mine stood for 6 months. after refitting engine it started, then died, was trying to start but wouldnt.

turned out to be stale fuel. After draining it its smelt like petrol, but was now a differnt colour to that of new fuel.

Changed the fuel and all worked fine.

Try this:

Get a long length of fuel hose and connect one end to the fuel filter (the end that goes to the fuel damper on the engine) and put the other end in a bucket or something to catch the fuel.

Remove the CAS from the engine. With the CAS plugged into the cars wiring loom and the ignition on slowly turn the CAS spindle.

When you turn the spindle you should hear the injectors clicking and there should be fuel being pumped out into the bucket.
