Just popped the lids off my boot speakers and these were in there. Not really impressed with them that's why I wanted to see what they were(stock or not) there's a clarion amp in there my question is ...if they're running through this and the signal wire had not been connected when changing these over would these work at all or would they be just quiet?

They seem quiet for the output rating so I have a feeling there is no signal wire connected to the clarion amp as I believe these have to be connected when changing over head units from stock or am I barking up the wrong tree?

well they are not stock on a 1990 mate but not sure about on later.

but dont look stock on yours either as they dont actually fit the holes.

as for other bit im sure somebody can tell you

Deffo not stock 6x4's - aftermarket jobbies. Personally I think you may be barking up the wrong tree. You can not expect over much from 6x4's, they struggle to give any real depth or volume, most end up with some sort of sub-woofer in the boot.

The shape of the 300zx and the boot if you like is just not designed with acoustics in mind!

I find my car hard to get a decent sound from its music system - I have a new head unit, 4 new good speakers and a powered sub-woofer.

the speakers are aftermarket yes it's the clarion amp i was wondering about if the signal wire was not connected to the stock clarion amp would the speakers power at all or would they run quietly/muffled? thanks

I would say a bit of wire modding is required here!

Disconnect the amp, and run the speaker wires direct from the head unit, you will receive a much better sound. This is assuming you are using an aftermarket head unit?

think this is what i'll end up doing bypassing the stock amps. Anyone know what output they are rms wise?

Well those JBL's will handle 120w, so for an average head unit they be fine.

I would say that if those JBL's were wired through your OEM amp, and the amp didn't have the signal wire connected then that will prevent them from working correctly. as stated, wiring direct will improve no-end :D

could do with a small 4 way amp, I have a 2 way running the fronts and a two way running the subs could change the 2 way front amp to a 4 way to runn these but as you've said for the time being I can bypass the amp straight fron the head unit

put a 4 way alpine amp in today instead of a 2 way and now have these powered through it as well as the fronts and they sound 200000% better:) something wasn't right so ditched the old cable as suggested above by davezed run the low level rears from the head unit to the new amp, put some new cable in now sounds grrrrrrrrrreat . They actually aren't bad little speakers for their size when run properly

Glad you've got it sorted bud

the postman was early this morning delivered it at 7am. Had the new one fitted by 8am nipped to the shop when they opened got some long phono's fitted them under the carpet(pain in the arse) so had a productive morning. Another little job sorted cheers dave.

also reconnected the clock whilst I had the console out as the alarm installer unplugged it and forgot to put it back in. So I have a clock now too:D
