Private Plate question

I have no idea what the answer is here - so I'm hoing one of you guys can help!

 

I have a private plate on my Zed I may be looking to swap onto another car.

 

Can someone tell me if the car it is being removed from has to be MOT'd or taxed because I know the car it is going onto has to be. I have no idea?

    have no idea mate.......but what info do i need and have to take with me to the postoffice to put a plate on a car do you know?

    Has to be taxed or on a SORN with no breaks between tax and SORN I know because I've done it !

    Yes; the donor car must me MOTd and taxed.

    You cannot do it at a PO - you need to go to a local DVLA office. You need the reg transfer form or reg retention document if the private plate is not yet on a car.

    aye i lost my a300y plate when i broke up my first zed :(

     

    unfortunately by the time i realised it needed to be mot'd it had run out the day before and was just a shell LOL

    I knew that transferring to another car that it had to be fully legal etc but wasn't sure if the same rules apply when putting it onto retention?

     

    Seems a bit of a con really, so I have to get my car MOt'd, taxed and insured just so I can get the plate off it? thats crap :( will cost a bit of money to get it to that stage! MOT and tax aren't a massive issue its just getting it insured thats gonna cost a fair amount as its an import.

     

    Bet you were gutted kirbz... so if I break up my car then I'll lose H 2ED X, I don't know what to do :( :(
