cd player

have tried and tested at least 3 working cd players in my car but for some reason they will not even turn on.

i have bought the connecter for the Z and hooked it all up, then plugged it into the stereo but nothin, the cd player section makes a noise to show there is power going to it, but nothing else, blank screen (not actual screen as just normal cd player) have tried resetting the players but still nothing, what am i missing as i know these cd players 100% work?

any ideas ?

cheers

Jonny

yeh, but mine the whole cd player doesnt work?? but you can here it power up, are there any other connectors i should be using ??

Sounds to me like only one of the power feeds are connected (you need both the permanent battery feed and the ignition one). Is it the original CD player? Sometimes different manufacturers move the pins around slightly.

As far as I know the multi plug on the Zed doesnt have an earth. The system will earth itself via the aerial. If the aerial lead is broke or simply not there/plugged in you wont have an earth. Try locating the earth from the CD (should be shown on a sticker on the top of player) and feed a direct earth to the chassis somewhere. A bad earth can cause all sorts of probs as I know from getting caiught by it myself

^^ That is correct, no Earth wire in the Z32 loom.

The original came with a separate attached cable to the body of the radio

Yep, earth. If you bolt it into the original metal supports and screw that into the correct place in dash should then be earthed to the chassis and will fire into life. (or just run a earth to the stereo housing to test it)

..ofcourse there is also the fuse in drivers footwell too.

will try it later, as the earth from my stereo has already been connected to the bolt on the chassis, but still getting nothin, i can hear it power up but nothing physically, ill try the fuse business

I once had a similar problem on a Micra. Took me months and tried everything that seemed logical

In the end, found that not enough current was going to the unit as the standard wiring had a fuse wired in, which restricted the current going to the unit. Cut this off and voila! All was OK.

guys still nothing???? anyone near coventry that knows about the zeds wiring that can help me out???

i want some tunes. lol :(

Don't know if this will be of any use to you, but worth a check though. Attached is the Radio wiring for the UK and JSpec cars (although the UK colour coding is for an adaptor loom and not the car side, I must try and rectify that)

Any probs with the colour codes, post up and I'll see what I can do :D
