Testing soleniod

further to my rollcoaster of a thread a few posts down, I have found what the awful grinding sound was when trying to crank. A bolt had fallen out the starter and it was hanging off the gearbox :o

Have fastened it all back up and reconnected the battery...now it won't even try and crank :(

I suspect the immobiliser has thrown a wobbler but just in case thought I'd test the starter.

Do I connect the big bolt on the soleniod to the battery +

connect the battery - to the starter bracket for earth

and then stick positive on the small black wire coming off the soleniod?

Picture to explain what I think i'm surposed to be doing :D

great thx, was a bit scared of melting something by doing it wrong :nelson:

good news, it all seems to work fine, so i'm sure its the immobiliser thats gone pop

When i have everything back together, can i run a wire straight to the solenoid to bypass the immob? when the immob was working it wouldnt allow the car to crank so i'm guessing that if i can crank it, the immob prolly won't be screwing around with anything else that would stop me getting it going.

If all else fails, I still need to get the thing to an auto electrician but seem to remember that bump starting turbos is not good for them?
