My car is pretty much spot on in everyway, exterior, interior.. except this bloody auto gearbox which as I have mentioned in the help section. I'm debating on getting a manual conversion, but was wondering if this is really solving the problem, also what will insurance be like when they realise it's been tinkered with in way that it's no-longer an auto.. and will this affect re-sale?..

 

Also, I don't really want to sell the car, because of a) prices at the moment b) the auto/man conv is almost half of what the car is worth... Obviously it's fate rests in my hands (or wallet) until I decide whether it's worth keeping and restoring, or getting something else and live happy in the safe knowledge that I owned one of these great cars.

 

Can anyone who can answer any of the above please let me know your thoughts, I would also like to hear from those who have had auto/manual conversion & what there thoughts are.

Insurance wise , just tell them you noticed a mistake on the insurance form and that it should be manual instead of Auto, rather than telling them you converted it.

 

Its not something they know already until you tell them what transmission you have when you take out a policy and doesn't affect cost when you take out the insurance.

 

It will affect resale as a Manual TT is worth anything from 500-1000 more than an Auto TT, converted or not doesn't matter.

 

Not sure how many auto>manual conversions I have done and driven, around 30 I would guess, but its one of those jobs, even more so than Boost upgrades, where you always get a call/text/email after from the customer telling you how over the moon they are with the transformation in the car, in particular how quicker, more responsive and fun it is to drive.

Just had my car converted to manual - was done by Phil in Manchester. My 2nd hand parts were the box, pedal box & booster. EVERTHING else was brand new....this made his job a lot easier and as a result no problems at all.

As for the transformation.....100% better. It is now a proper car, feels like a proper car, drives & sounds better too. It is a little quicker in most areas, but NOT all I would say.

Can't beat the 50mph auto kick down. And although statistically faster 0-60 (the manual), it is hard to beat the autos stamp and go acceleration which is consistent.

I know the conversion costs a lot in relation to current values, but hey, we don't own 300zx because they make economic sense do we?!

As for the insurance, I have just had my renewal and it made no difference to the premium.

 

Basically, if you can afford it and you still really like the car, the conversion is worth the money 100%

 

Resale value? I would say increase slightly as manuals are more wanted.

As long as its done properly and good parts are used with reciepts to prove the work, it won't put off a buyer.
