my car has a really strong smell of petrol, used to get a whiff but since the weekend it's got really strong, had a look under the bonnet but can't see any leaks

Most common on cold is either the fuel dampner of regulator, but when engine is warm, very hard to locate a leak as it evaporates instantly.

Check hoses either side of these and fuel filter.

If still doing, maybe a stuck injector, clean them aswell, and start to elimate stuff.

remove the throttle body cover and look down between where the accelerator cables end...you´ll see two small fuel pipes, check the clamps on them mate

The reason your engine is so dirty is because YOU NEED TO CLEAN IT. We expect better things from Cornish Zedders.

Gonna see a mate of mine he likes a challenge, wants to have a go at polishing my '86 Goldwing. fuel smell seems to be only when cold, have to take a few bits off an see if theres any loose clamps or cracked pipes.

usual culprit is the pipes around the fuel pressure regulator, have some one start it up while you've got your head under the bonnet, its on the right in between the plenum pipes, pipe underneath is hard to see.
